Perception and use of magnifying glasses during the private clinical practice of dentists in Metropolitan LimaAbstract
Objetivo: Determinar la percepción y uso sobre las lupas de aumento durante la práctica clínica privada de odontólogos en Lima Metropolitana, durante el año 2023. Materiales y Métodos: Este estudio fue de tipo observacional, descriptivo y transversal. Se encuestaron a 244 odontólogos residentes en Lima Metropolitana. Para evaluar la percepción y uso de las lupas de aumento se utilizó un cuestionario con preguntas de autorreporte. Además, se evaluaron variables sociodemográficas, educacionales y laborales. El análisis estadístico se realizó en el programa Stata versión 18. Resultados: Se encontró que del 62.70% de odontólogos que usan lupas de aumento, el 91.21% consideran la ergonomía como principal ventaja del uso de lupas de aumento; no obstante, el 36.48% considera la dependencia visual como principal desventaja. Por otro lado, 79.92% considera el aumento de imagen de las lupas como razón principal para adquirirlas; sin embargo, el 12.30% considera el alto costo como razón para no utilizarlas. Conclusiones: Los odontólogos indican que las lupas de aumento poseen mayor ventajas que desventajas, considerando en primer lugar a la ergonomía, seguida de la calidad de atención, detección de caries y restauraciones.Objective: Determine the perception of magnification loupes and their use during the private clinical practice of dentists in Metropolitan Lima, during the year 2023. To evaluate the perception and use of magnifying glasses, a questionnaire with self-report questions was used. In addition, other sociodemographic, educational, and occupational variables were also assessed. Statistical analysis was performed using Stata version 18. Results: It was found that of the 62.70% of dentists who use magnifying loupes, 91.21% consider ergonomics to be the main advantage of using magnifying loupes; however, 36.48% consider visual dependence to be the main disadvantage. On the other hand, 79.92% consider the magnification of magnifying loupes to be the main reason for purchasing them; however, 12.30% consider the high cost to be a reason for not using them. Conclusions: Dentists indicate that magnifying loupes have more advantages than disadvantages, considering ergonomics first, followed by quality of care, caries detection, and restorations.
