Academic Stress and Burnout in Pre-professional Interns in Metropolitan LimaAbstract
The present research aimed to identify the relationship between academic stress and burnout in pre-professional interns in Metropolitan Lima, 2024. The sample consisted of 130 students from private universities in Metropolitan Lima who were completing their pre-professional internships, of whom 60% were women and 40% were men. The ages of the participants ranged between 20 and 26 years, and they voluntarily offered to participate, after giving informed consent. The SISCO SV-21 instrument and the "Burnout Clinical Subtype Questionnaire" (BCSQ-36) were applied. The research found a small positive correlation between academic stress and burnout (r = 0.243, sig. <0.001). In addition, a positive relationship was identified between specific subtypes of burnout (without challenges and exhaustion) and academic stress, however, no relationship was found with the frenetic factor. Furthermore, the results of this study show that female pre-professional interns in Metropolitan Lima experience significantly higher levels of academic stress and burnout compared to their male peers.
