Empowerment and Emotional Dependence in women who are currently in a romantic relationshipAbstract
Introduction: Emotional dependence is a pattern of behaviors characterized by the need for validation from the partner, which intensifies when women lack empowerment. Objective: Determine the relationship between empowerment and emotional dependence in female college students who have or have had a romantic relationship. Method: A probability convenience sampling with a simple correlational design was used, in which 240 women from different universities residing in Metropolitan Lima, aged 19 to 35, who have or had a romantic relationship participated (M = 22.8; SD = 3.7). Were evaluated using the Instrument for Measuring Women's Empowerment (IMEM) and the Emotional Dependency Questionnaire (CDE). Results: There is a moderate inverse correlation between the variables, and as women acquire greater autonomy in their decisions and support from their environment, they are less likely to emotionally depend on their partners. Conclusions: The empowerment of women reduces the likelihood that they will be emotionally dependent on their romantic partners. The results provide empirical evidence on the relationship of these factors for their approach and intervention.
