Parental Styles and Irrational Beliefs among university students in Metropolitan LimaAbstract
The aim of this research is to relate parental styles and irrational beliefs in university students in Metropolitan Lima. An associative strategy study was carried out, with a simple correlational and non-causal comparative design. The sample consisted of 139 university students between the ages of 18 and 45 years chosen by a non-probabilistic convenience sampling to whom the Parental Bonding Instrument (P.B.I.) scale (Guzmán, 2009) and the scale Registro de Opiniones forma A (REGOPINA) (Melis et al., 2001) were applied. It is evident that there are significant correlations in the Parental Styles dimensions of Overprotective father and Overprotective mother with the total Irrational Beliefs scale and its dimensions of Approval, Perfectionism, Punishment, Frustration and Distress. Also, variables were compared according to sex.
