Traducción comentada inglés-español del artículo especializado Digital technology, telemedicine and artificial intelligence in ophthalmology: A global perspective

Abstract

La oftalmología es la rama de la medicina que se especializa en el estudio, diagnóstico y tratamiento de enfermedades y trastornos relacionados a los ojos. Hoy en día, los casos de problemas oculares y la ceguera aumentan cada día, convirtiéndose en un problema de salud pública. Por ello, la presente investigación tiene como objetivo analizar el proceso de traducción del inglés al español del artículo médico Digital technology, tele-medicine and artificial intelligence in ophthalmology: A global perspective desde un enfoque funcionalista. La presente investigación parte del supuesto base de que el texto tiene elementos extratextuales (emisor, intención, receptor) e intratextuales (tema, contenido, sintaxis), los cuales sirven para comprender su función comunicativa del texto. Posteriormente, el proceso traslativo presentará problemas y dificultades, los cuales se resolverán mediante técnicas de traducción como el equivalente acuñado y desplazamiento. Asimismo, se empleará la estrategia de recojo de información para resolver neologismos, extranjerismos y palabras polisémicas y homónimas, características lingüísticas comunes en textos científicos (Aixelá, 2015). Finalmente, se realizará la transferencia de las funciones del texto fuente (TF) al texto meta (TM) mediante un análisis contrastivo detallado. La investigación emplea la teoría de la traducción comentada, que se entiende como un tipo de traducción que explora la complejidad del proceso y ayuda a comprender mejor las decisiones tomadas en la traducción. Asimismo, la investigación aborda el concepto de tecnología digital la cual consiste en la integración avanzada de herramientas digitales para mejorar la atención sanitaria en todos sus aspectos, promoviendo una medicina más eficiente, precisa y accesible.

Ophthalmology is a field of medicine that specializes in the study, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and disorders related to the eye. Nowadays, the cases of eye problems and blindness increase daily, becoming a public health issue. The aim of this research is to analyze the translation process from English to Spanish of the medical article Digital technology, tele-medicine and artificial intelligence in ophthalmology: A global perspective from a functionalist approach. This research is based on the supposed basis that the text has extratextual (sender, intention, receiver) and intratextual elements (theme, content, syntax), which are used to understand the communicative function of the text. Subsequently, the problems and difficulties presented during the translation process will be resolved through translation techniques such as the coined equivalent and displacement, together with the information gathering strategy to resolve neologisms, foreign words and polysemous and homonymous words, common linguistic features in scientific texts (Aixelá, 2015). Finally, the transfer of communicative functions from the source text (ST) to the target text (TT) will be carried out through a detailed contrastive analysis. The research employs the theory of annotated translation, which is understood as a type of translation that explores the complexity of the process and helps to better understand the decisions made in translation. The research also addresses the concept of digital technology, which is the advanced integration of digital tools to improve healthcare in all its aspects, promoting more efficient, accurate, and accessible medicine.
