La traducción del español al inglés de la representación de las identidades trans en la novela Las malas

Abstract

Los textos literarios que abordan el tema de las identidades trans se caracterizan por su conexión con la sociedad y la visibilización de realidades marginalizadas. Este fenómeno resulta interesante para el estudio traductológico, debido a que las construcciones discursivas de las identidades trans no solo reflejan las particularidades lingüísticas y culturales en la traducción, sino que también retratan las dinámicas sociales que las moldean. Por ello, la presente investigación se centra en la traducción del español al inglés de la representación de las identidades trans en la novela Las malas para identificar cómo se reexpresa la construcción de estas identidades en el texto meta. En este sentido, es fundamental considerar las estrategias discursivas empleadas para representar las identidades trans y el contexto sociocultural latinoamericano y angloparlante para comprender la traducción de ellas. Esta investigación emplea los conceptos de prácticas lingüísticas trans, narrativa trans y traducción del género autoficción que se clasifican en tres categorías principales, traducción literaria, identidad trans y traducción de identidades trans. Del mismo modo, se parte del supuesto de que los elementos lingüísticos empleados para la construcción discursiva de las identidades trans visibilizan sus experiencias y evidencian sus dinámicas. Asimismo, se asume que el uso del lenguaje tabú podría manifestarse en las expresiones y realidades de estas personas. Finalmente, se asume que la traducción de identidades trans implica técnicas y estrategias que mantienen su carácter disruptivo y su contexto sociocultural.

Literary texts that explore the theme of trans identities are characterized by their connection to society and by giving visibility to marginalized realities. This phenomenon is particularly compelling for translation studies, as the discursive constructions of trans identities reflect both linguistic nuances and the social dynamics shaping them. For this reason, this research focuses on the translation of trans identity representation from Spanish into English in the novel Las malas. It aims to identify how these identities are expressed in the target text. In this sense, it is essential to consider the discursive strategies employed to represent trans identities, as well as the sociocultural contexts of Latin America and English-speaking regions. This research applies the concepts of trans linguistic practices, trans narratives, and the translation of autobiographical fiction genre, classified into three main categories: literary translation, trans identity, and the translation of trans identities. Additionally, the research assumes that the linguistic elements in constructing trans identities highlight their experiences and dynamics. Furthermore, it is assumed that the taboo language is used in the expressions and realities of these identities. Finally, it is assumed that the translation of trans identities involves techniques and strategies that preserve their disruptive nature and sociocultural context.
