Objective: Identify the factors associated with persistent anosmia in students from 20 to 29 years old at the Continental University in Huancayo-Peru, 2023-2024. Material and methods: Analytical cross-sectional study that evaluated young students from 20 to 29 years old at the Continental University in Huancayo-Peru during the years 2023-2024. Data referring to eligibility criteria and variables of interest were collected through a data collection sheet. Crude prevalence ratios (PRc) and adjusted prevalence ratios (PRa) with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were estimated through a generalized linear Poisson family model with logarithmic link function and robust variances. Results: Data provided by 833 participants were analyzed. 45.26% were 20 years old, 61.02% were women and the prevalence of persistent anosmia was 68.72%. In addition, belonging to the age group of 21 to 22 years old (PR: 1.14; 95% CI: 1.04-1.25), a severe degree of initial olfactory compromise (PR: 1.41; 95% CI: 1.17-1.70), a severe illness due to COVID-19 (PR: 1.24; 95% CI: 1.13-1.36) and certain antecedents lead to a higher prevalence of persistent anosmia. Conclusions: Age, degree of initial olfactory compromise, severity of COVID-19 disease, history of intestinal, lung disease, and gastric ulcer were factors associated with persistent anosmia in the high-altitude youth population studied.
