Traducción comentada del inglés al español del fact sheet titulado Eating Disorders in Schools: Prevention, Early Identification, Response and Recovery Support (2023) hacia una serie de material didáctico en el contexto de transcreación

Abstract

En las últimas dos décadas, la traducción médica ha experimentado un crecimiento significativo, ya que, con la aparición del Internet como motor de búsqueda, diferentes tipos de audiencias puede acceder a contenido especializado. No obstante, este tipo de contenido científico-médico puede contener terminología especializada. En ese caso, el traductor debe actuar como mediador y adaptar estos textos mediante estrategias como la transcreación, reformulando el contenido para que sea claro y accesible. Por ello la presente investigación tiene como objetivo describir las etapas de una traducción comentada del inglés a español del fact sheet titulado Eating Disorders in Schools: Prevention, Early Identification, Response and Recovery Support (NEDC, 2023) a material didáctico a partir de un proceso de transcreación. De esta forma, el estudio parte del supuesto base de que el fact sheet puede presentar factores extratextuales como intención emisora de carácter informativo y un destinatario lego e intratextuales como ligera terminología y estructuras marcadas. Asimismo, puede presentar problemas lingüísticos y pragmáticos relacionados a la necesidad de adaptar el léxico a un público lego, así como dificultades textuales y técnicas que se generan al momento de traducir un texto médico dirigido a un público lego. Igualmente, se asume que el texto fuente tenga una función referencial y apelativa predominante porque es objetivo al brindar datos y recomendaciones a un público lego no especializado. Finalmente, el objeto de estudio será abordado como una traducción heterofuncional (Nord, 2009) que implica un cambio de situación comunicativa.

Over the past two decades, medical translation has seen significant growth, driven by the rise of the internet as a search tool that allows various audiences to access specialized content. However, such scientific-medical material often includes specialized terminology. In these cases, the translator must act as a mediator, adapting the text through strategies like transcreation, which involves reformulating the content to ensure clarity and accessibility. This research aims to describe the stages of a commented translation from English to Spanish of the fact sheet Eating Disorders in Schools: Prevention, Early Identification, Response and Recovery Support (2023), transforming it into educational material through a transcreation process. The study assumes that the fact sheet contains both extratextual factors, such as an informative intent directed at a lay-audience, and intratextual factors, such as technical terminology and marked structures sentences. It also explores linguistic and pragmatic problems related to adapting the language for a non-expert audience, along with textual and technical difficulties in translating a medical text aimed at lay-audience. Furthermore, the source text is assumed to predominantly have referential and appellative function, as it provides data and recommendations to a non-specialized audience. The study addresses the translation as a heterofunctional process (Nord, 2009), which involves a shift in the communicative situation.
