La traducción comentada de Hera (2024) de Jennifer Saint: un análisis funcionalista del estilo narrativo feminista y la caracterización de Hera

Abstract

En la actualidad, el campo de la traducción literaria feminista ha presentado una creciente importancia, con un enfoque particular en la representación y reinterpretación de personajes femeninos en diversos géneros literarios. Esta investigación se centra en la traducción comentada de la novela Hera (2024) de Jennifer Saint, originalmente escrita en inglés americano, un retelling de la mitología griega desde una perspectiva feminista. El objetivo es analizar cómo las decisiones de traducción afectan al estilo narrativo y caracterización de Hera, tradicionalmente estigmatizada, en la traducción al español latinoamericano. Esta investigación resalta la importancia de la traducción feminista como un acto político que subraya la visibilización de las voces femeninas y la crítica al patriarcado. Además, se analiza cómo las decisiones del traductor, guiadas por un enfoque funcionalista, buscan conservar las funciones comunicativas y el estilo narrativo feminista del texto fuente en la cultura meta. El proceso incluye una reflexión sobre las decisiones tomadas en cada fase del análisis, buscando mantener la coherencia estilística, el tono narrativo y la crítica social presente en la obra original, buscando trasladar de manera fiel el empoderamiento femenino y la reinterpretación de la novela de Hera a la lengua meta.

Currently, the field of feminist literary translation has gained increasing importance, with a particular focus on the representation and reinterpretation of female characters across various literary genres. This research centers on the annotated translation of the novel Hera (2024) by Jennifer Saint, originally written in American English, a "retelling" of Greek mythology from a feminist perspective. The aim is to analyse how translation decisions affect the narrative style and characterization of Hera, traditionally stigmatized, in the Latin American Spanish translation. This research highlights the importance of feminist translation as a political act that emphasizes the visibility of female voices and critiques patriarchy. Furthermore, the translator's decisions, guided by a functionalist approach, aim to preserve the communicative functions and the feminist narrative style of the source text in the target culture. The process includes a reflection on the decisions made at each stage of the analysis, seeking to maintain the stylistic coherence, narrative tone, and social critique present in the original work, seeking to faithfully transfer the female empowerment and reinterpretation of Hera's novel into the target language.
