La traducción de culturemas en los diálogos del inglés al doblaje en español peninsular y latinoamericano de la película The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)

Abstract

The Emperor’s New Groove (2000) es una película animada estadounidense que destaca por incluir referencias culturales mediante elementos textuales, como nombres en quechua, comidas típicas, frases idiomáticas, entre otras, que aluden a la civilización inca y a la cultura hispanoamericana. En su doblaje al español latinoamericano y peninsular, se observa que estos elementos, lo que denominamos como culturemas, suelen adaptarse a cada contexto lingüístico y cultural de ambas variantes geográficas. Por tanto, la presente investigación propone, como objetivo principal, contrastar cómo la traducción de los culturemas varía entre los diálogos en inglés de The Emperor’s New Groove (2000) en su doblaje al español latinoamericano y al español peninsular. Para ello, se emplean los conceptos de traducción audiovisual (TAV), variación lingüística y culturemas, por medio de subcategorías y microcategorías, para comprender a profundidad nuestro tema de investigación. En este contexto, se parte del supuesto base que en ambos doblajes se busca adaptar los culturemas, pero con diferentes enfoques. Por un lado, el doblaje peninsular utilizaría las técnicas de traducción literal y equivalente acuñado, al centrarse en el uso de coloquialismos y regionalismos. Por otro lado, en el doblaje latinoamericano, se emplearía la técnica de adaptación cultural, al optar por la particularización de los culturemas.

The Emperor's New Groove (2000) is an American animated film that stands out for including cultural references through textual elements, such as Quechua names, typical foods, idiomatic phrases, among others, that allude to the Inca civilization and the Hispanic American culture. In their dubbing into Latin American and Peninsular Spanish, it is observed that these elements, what we call culturemes, are usually adapted to each linguistic and cultural context of both geographic variants. Therefore, the present research proposes, as its main objective, to contrast how the translation of culturemes varies between the English dialogues of The Emperor's New Groove (2000) in its dubbing into Latin American Spanish and peninsular Spanish. For this purpose, the concepts of audiovisual translation (AVT), linguistic variation and culturemes are used, by means of subcategories and microcategories, to understand our research topic in-depth. In this context, we start from the basic assumption that in both dubbing processes the aim is to adapt the culturemes, but with different approaches. On the one hand, peninsular dubbing would use the techniques of literal translation and coined equivalent, focusing on the use of colloquialisms and regionalisms. On the other hand, Latin American dubbing would employ the cultural adaptation technique, opting for the particularization of culturemes.
