Análisis contrastivo del lenguaje soez en el doblaje de la serie de televisión The Boys del inglés al español latinoamericano

Abstract

El lenguaje soez es un componente recurrente tanto en la comunicación diaria como en diversas obras audiovisuales. Sin embargo, su traducción en el ámbito audiovisual plantea desafíos cuando se adapta a un idioma con marcadas diferencias socioculturales y lingüísticas. De acuerdo con lo mencionado, en este trabajo se analiza la manera en la que se tradujo las expresiones soeces en una serie de televisión titulada The Boys (Kripke et al., 2019-2024) al pasar del inglés al español latinoamericano, específicamente en el campo del doblaje. Esta serie fue elegida como objeto de estudio debido a la notable y constante incorporación de expresiones soeces en todo sus capítulos y temporadas. La investigación se fundamenta en fuentes empíricas y teóricas relacionadas con el lenguaje soez, el doblaje, la ciencia ficción, la caracterización de personajes y la traducción audiovisual. Con base en una categorización del lenguaje tabú realizada, se identifican y clasifican las expresiones soeces utilizadas en el doblaje fuente hecho en inglés y su traducción al español latinoamericano (Fuentes-Luque, 2014). Además, se analizan las estrategias y técnicas de traducción, como eufemismos, omisiones y circunloquios, procedimientos traductológicos comunes debido a las particularidades culturales y lingüísticas del español latinoamericano. Por otro lado, este estudio analizará cómo el doblaje impacta en la caracterización de los personajes de The Boys. Finalmente, este estudio tiene como objetivo aportar al entendimiento sobre cómo se traduce el lenguaje soez en el ámbito del doblaje de producciones audiovisuales, así como examinar los retos que implica adaptar este tipo de contenido para públicos de diferentes contextos lingüísticos y culturales.

Offensive language is a recurring component in both daily communication and various audiovisual works. However, its translation in the audiovisual field presents challenges when adapting it to a language with marked sociocultural and linguistic differences. In this context, this study analyzes how offensive expressions were translated in the television series The Boys as it transitioned from English to Latin American Spanish, specifically in the realm of dubbing. This series was chosen as the subject of study due to the significant and continuous inclusion of offensive expressions throughout its episodes and seasons. The research is based on both empirical and theoretical sources related to offensive language, dubbing, science fiction, character characterization, and audiovisual translation. Using a categorization of taboo language, the offensive expressions in the original English dubbing and their translation into Latin American Spanish are identified and classified (Fuentes-Luque, 2014). Furthermore, translation strategies and techniques, such as euphemisms, omissions, and circumlocution, are analyzed, as these are common translation procedures due to the cultural and linguistic peculiarities of Latin American Spanish. Likewise, this research will evaluate the influence of dubbing on the characterization of the characters. Finally, this work aims to contribute to the understanding of the translation of offensive language in the field of dubbing of audiovisual productions and to analyze the challenges that arise when adapting content for audiovisual productions.
