Traducción comentada del inglés estadounidense al español peruano del idiolecto de Heidi Holland que construye el discurso feminista en la obra teatral The Heidi Chronicles (1988) de Wendy Wasserstein

Abstract

Esta tesis propone la traducción comentada del idiolecto feminista de Heidi Holland, la protagonista de la obra The Heidi Chronicles (1988) de Wendy Wasserstein, al español peruano. El estudio investiga los desafíos que implica traducir la dimensión comunicativa, pragmática y semiótica del lenguaje de Heidi, que refleja su discurso feminista y caracteriza su identidad y su influencia en la segunda ola del feminismo en los Estados Unidos entre los años 1960 y 1970. Heidi desafía las estructuras patriarcales y redefine los roles de género mediante el uso de la ironía y el humor, lo que convierte a su idiolecto en un elemento clave para transmitir ideologías feministas. Esta investigación se centra en los desafíos específicos al adaptar este idiolecto feminista al contexto sociocultural peruano del feminismo contemporáneo. Asimismo, tiene como objetivo identificar las estrategias de traducción que preserven la speakability y performability de la obra, al tiempo que se abordan los cambios culturales y lingüísticos necesarios para que la obra sea resonante en el público peruano. A través de un análisis detallado de los elementos pragmáticos (humor e ironía) y el discurso feminista como parte de idiolecto de Heidi en el segundo acto de The Heidi Chronicles, esta tesis propone cómo estos elementos pueden ser traducidos de manera efectiva, mediante una adaptación de las tres dimensiones de la obra. En última instancia, se busca contribuir a la comprensión del discurso feminista en la traducción teatral al resaltar la importancia de la adaptación cultural en la transmisión de ideologías feministas.

This thesis proposes an annotated translation of the feminist idiolect of Heidi Holland, the protagonist of Wendy Wasserstein’s The Heidi Chronicles (1988), into Peruvian Spanish. The study examines the challenges involved in translating the communicative, pragmatic, and semiotic dimensions of Heidi’s language, which reflects her feminist discourse and characterizes her identity, shaped by the second wave of feminism in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s. Heidi challenges patriarchal structures and redefines gender roles through the use of irony and humor, making her idiolect a key element for conveying feminist ideologies. This research focuses on the specific challenges of adapting this feminist idiolect to the sociocultural context of contemporary Peruvian feminism. It also aims to identify translation strategies that preserve the play’s speakability and performability while addressing the cultural and linguistic changes necessary for the play to resonate with Peruvian audiences. Through a detailed analysis of the pragmatic elements (humor and irony) and the feminist discourse within Heidi’s idiolect in the second act of The Heidi Chronicles, this thesis explores how these elements can be effectively translated by adapting the three dimensions of the play. Finally, it seeks to contribute to the understanding of feminist discourse in theatrical translation, highlighting the importance of cultural adaptation in the transmission of feminist ideologies.
