The impact of the pandemic and Reactiva Perú on the Reconfiguration of the Capital Structure of the BVL CompaniesAbstract
The COVID-19 pandemic caused economic disruptions worldwide. Peru also experienced supply and demand shocks due to lockdowns imposed during the pandemic. These measures increased the financial difficulties faced by Peruvian companies. In response, the Peruvian government implemented Reactiva Perú, a program that offered low-interest, governmentbacked loans to stabilize businesses and preserve liquidity. In this context, the present study examines the impact of the pandemic and Reactiva Perú on the capital structure of nonfinancial companies listed on the Bolsa de Valores de Lima (BVL) between 2009 and 2024. By focusing on capital structure, this research analyzes how companies adjusted their financial strategies under crisis conditions. The findings reveal that the distance to healthcare facilities significantly increases out-of-pocket expenditures, particularly in rural areas where access to public health services is limited. These results underscore the need for public policies aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure to reduce disparities in access and promote economic equity. This study provides a comprehensive perspective on the economic and geographic barriers faced by Peruvian households, offering robust evidence for the development of strategies to improve social welfare.
