Psychometric Properties of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support in Adolescents: A systematic reviewAbstract
The objective of this study was to analyze the scientific evidence of the psychometric properties of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) in the adolescent population. A systematic review of studies published in the Scopus, Pubmed and Web of Science databases was carried out from 2018 to 2024. A total of six studies were identified, which were analyzed for their methodological quality and psychosocial properties. It was found that none of the studies analyzed content validity, this being an important limitation that could affect their results. In all studies the internal structure was analyzed through the CFA, while one also evaluated it through the ESEM model. The analysis of internal consistency was carried out mostly through Cronbach's alpha coefficient, with the omega coefficient being the second most used. Through the studies evaluated, the three-dimensional structure of the MSPSS was confirmed. It is concluded that the MSPSS is an appropriate scale to measure perceived social support in adolescents.
