Therefore, this study aimed to correlate generalized anxiety and suicidal ideation among unemployed adults resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Differences were identified in these variables according to sex and length of unemployment. An associative strategy was drawn up. With a sample of 106 participants, in which 67.9% are women and 32.1% men. Those are residents of Metropolitan Lima and range in age from 22 to 55 years. The Brief Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment Questionnaire [GAD-7] and the Paykel Suicidal Ideation Scale were used. The results showed that generalized anxiety showed positive and statistically significant correlations with suicidal ideation (r = . 36, p < . 001) and thoughts of death (r = . 34, p < . 001); however, there are no statistically significant correlations between generalized anxiety and suicide attempt. Regarding the differences by sex and time unemployed, differences were only found in the variable suicide attempt, where men had higher scores. In conclusion, through this research, it was possible to identify various consequences on mental health such as anxious symptoms and/or suicidal thoughts that unemployment brings, especially in this time of uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
