Abstract
The purpose of this work is to present an innovative approach with strategies and activities to develop reading and writing skills at an early age. The project was implemented in a center in Lima Metropolitana, with 12 students of 3-year-old. Students will be going through three stages: image reading, logographic reading and pre-syllabic reading and writing. The mentioned stages are based on the research of “Writing systems in child development” by Emilia Ferreiro (1979), and the “Evolutionary Model” by Frith (1985), who proposes three stages in reading development: logographic stage, alphabetical and orthographic. The activities are worked on the circle time and take between 15 to 20 minutes daily. The results were analyzed using checklists and percentages, resulting in 60% of the students having managed to perform the syllabic stroke using their hands and fingers, maintaining a perfect sound value. While in reading and writing, 100% of the students have managed to paste the number of stickers according to the number of syllables that the word has, and 83% have managed to make sticks (according to the number of syllables) to write a word. Therefore, it could be said that most of the students managed to reach the pre-syllabic level in a playful way in a period of less than 10 months.
