  • Memory, trauma and sexual violence: the representation of the terror of the internal armed conflict in Las hijas del terror by Rocío Silva Santisteban

Rabelo, Carlos Milton Manrique; Collazos, Milagros Jessica Mere; Sucari, Henry César Rivas (Instituto de Investigaciones Literarias y Discursivas, Universidad Nacional de La Pampa, 2024-01-01)
During the internal armed conflict in Peru (1980-2000) the Andean population endured its worst violence, both by subversive groups and by State agents. Among the other collections of poems that represent the civil war, Rocío Silva Santisteban’s Las hijas del terror stands out in its poeticization of the terror experienced by Andean women victims of sexual violence. This article analyzes four poems from the collection: “Chunniqwasi”, “BAvioLADA”, “Disappeared” and “Las hijas del terror”. It examines, on the one hand, the representation of memory and, on the other, the hierarchies of power that contributed to terror and sexual violence in times of war as well as in times of peace. For our analysis, we employ the concepts of subalternity (Gayatri Spivak), trashization (proposed by Daniel Castillo Durante and studied by Rocío Silva Santisteban), and necropower and necrowriting (Achille Mbembe and Cristina Rivera Garza, respectively). Other important concepts by Marfil Francke, Kimberle Crenshaw and Jelke Boesten on intersectionality and sexual violence help us further the analysis.

  • The role of prosumer fandom in the transmedia advertising narrative of League of Legends

Herrera, Ariam; Castro-Bernardini, María José; Arbaiza, Francisco (Universidad Austral de Chile, 2024-01-01)
This study analyzes the role of prosumers -users who are both consumers and producers- in the transmedia advertising narrative of the video game "League of Legends", one of the most popular worldwide. Using a qualitative approach with phenomenological design, we explored the experiences and perceptions of 15 active fan-gamers in their communities. The findings indicate that prosumers not only consume content, but also generate their own material and disseminate it on platforms, acting as key influencers in the expansion of the game's narrative. This phenomenon facilitates an ongoing dialogue in communities, promoting co-creation and dissemination of content without expecting direct compensation from developers. This study highlights the need for brands to recognize these contributions in their advertising and marketing strategies. We reveal how active prosumer integration can influence transmedia advertising, suggesting that future research further explore how these interactions affect brand perception and engagement. The results offer valuable insights into the dynamics between prosumers and narrative development in digital contexts.

  • Real-Time CNN Based Facial Emotion Recognition Model for a Mobile Serious Game

Anto-Chavez, Carolain; Maguiña-Bernuy, Richard; Ugarte, Willy (Science and Technology Publications, Lda., 2024-01-01)
Every year, the increase in human-computer interaction is noticeable. This brings with it the evolution of computer vision to improve this interaction to make it more efficient and effective. This paper presents a CNN-based emotion face recognition model capable to be executed on mobile devices, in real time and with high accuracy. Different models implemented in other research are usually of large sizes, and although they obtained high accuracy, they fail to make predictions in an optimal time, which prevents a fluid interaction with the computer. To improve these, we have implemented a lightweight CNN model trained with the FER2013 dataset to obtain the prediction of seven basic emotions. Experimentation shows that our model achieves an accuracy of 66.52% in validation, can be stored in a 13.23MB file and achieves an average processing time of 14.39ms and 16.06ms, on a tablet and a phone, respectively..

  • Call them by their names: Sexuality, homoeroticism, and audiovisual translation

  • Use of Custom Videogame Dataset and YOLO Model for Accurate Handgun Detection in Real-Time Video Security Applications

Bazan, Diego; Casanova, Raul; Ugarte, Willy (Science and Technology Publications, Lda., 2024-01-01)
Research has shown the ineffectiveness of video surveillance operators in detecting crimes through security cameras, which is a challenge due to their physical limitations. On the other hand, it was shown that computer vision, although promising, faces difficulties in real-time crime detection due to the large amount of data needed to build reliable models. This study presents three key innovations: a gun dataset extracted from the Grand Theft Auto V game, a computer vision model trained on this data, and a video surveillance application that employs the model for automatic gun crime detection. The main challenge was to collect images representing various scenarios and angles to reinforce the computer vision model. The video editor of the Grand Theft Auto V game was used to obtain the necessary images. These images were used to train the model, which was implemented in a desktop application. The results were very promising, as the model demonstrated high accuracy in detecting gun crime in real time. The video surveillance application based on this model was able to automatically identify and alert about criminal situations on security cameras-

  • Deepbrokenhighways: Road Damage Recognition System Using Convolutional Neural Networks

Peralta-Ireijo, Sebastian; Chavez-Arias, Bill; Ugarte, Willy (– Science and Technology Publications, Lda, 2024-01-01)
Road damage, such as potholes and cracks, represent a constant nuisance to drivers as they could potentially cause accidents and damages. Current pothole detection in Peru, is mostly manually operated and hardly ever use image processing technology. To combat this we propose a mobile application capable of real-time road damage detection and spatial mapping across a city. Three models are going to be trained and evaluated (Yolov5, Yolov8 and MobileNet v2) on a novel dataset which contains images from Lima, Peru. Meanwhile, the viability of crack detection through bounding box method will be put to the test, each model will be trained once with cracks annotations and without. The YOLOv5 model was the one with the best results, as it showed the best mAP50 across all of out experiments. It got 99.0% and 98.3% mAP50 with the dataset without crack and with crack annotations, correspondingly..

The research aimed to determine the influence of the executive leadership workshop on the educational quality of public educational institutions in Tambopata-Madre de Dios, 2023. This purpose was achieved, as the general hypothesis was validated, supporting that the executive leadership workshop positively influences the educational quality of public educational institutions in Tambopata-Madre de Dios, 2023. This is based on the Mann Whitney U test, since a significance of p-value 0,000 < 0,05 was reached; therefore, it is evident that the educational quality is favored by the executive leadership workshop. Guiding leadership is essential to promote and improve the quality of education. Educational leaders, such as school principals or department heads, are responsible for establishing a clear vision, motivating their teams, and promoting an environment conducive to learning and student development, which is achieved through leadership that impacts the quality of education in a certain way, establishing a shared vision and setting clear and achievable goals for the educational institution.

  • Enhancement of three isolation optimizations by more reliable estimation of seismic action predominant period

Morales, César A. (SAGE Publications Inc., 2024-01-01)
As a large base displacement level is the main drawback of the generally very successful seismic isolation technique, latest optimization procedures for the subsystem at base are focused on the control of that displacement. One family of procedures is based on the existence of one predominant frequency in earthquake excitation, which is evident only if the spectral analysis is performed considering displacement as the input, rather than the common ground acceleration. Nevertheless, recent results, besides corroborating the existence of one predominant period, have produced an improvement in the computation of this single spectral parameter. In this paper, this more reliable seismic predominant frequency is employed in previously successful methodologies to control isolator displacement. The hypothesis is that an enhanced model of the input will result in an improved structural response, which again, it is further reduced base displacements.

  • Factors Influencing Household Recycling Behavior in Lima, Peru: Insights for Social Marketing Strategies

Tassano Ramos, Alvaro Santiago; Bazo Quintana, Pedro Vicente (Routledge, 2024-01-01)
The main objective of this study is to find out what factors impact household recycling behavior with the aim to guide the development of a social marketing strategy to promote this behavior. The study was based on a structural equation model using the three factors that make up the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). In addition, four more variables were analyzed: environmental awareness, moral standards, situational factors, and recycling service and infrastructure. The results of 254 valid questionnaires reveal that the subjective norm–or social pressure–was the only variable of the TPB to affect recycle intention significantly. Considering the role social pressure has on recycling behavior, it is necessary to implement a social marketing strategy that maximizes the visibility of this activity and include the participation of the community as much as possible.

Karbaum Padilla, Gerardo; Barredo Ibáñez, Daniel; Rejano Peña, Carlos; Chura Pilco, Claudia (Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca, 2024-01-01)
COVID-19 halted social activities across the planet; including sports. The pandemic caused an unprecedented crisis in the audiovisual media that broadcast these events, which found themselves with the immediate need to restructure their content offer, for which they had to innovate in their production and programming processes. This research aims to describe the innovations in audiovisual journalistic production applied in sports media in various countries during the crisis caused by COVID-19. To comply with this, the qualitative approach was applied with the semi-structured interview technique to a sample of producers, journalists and filmmakers. The interview was oriented according to the main constituent stages of audiovisual production, such as pre-production, coverage and post-production. Based on what has been studied, it is concluded that the global crisis caused by the pandemic encouraged innovative techniques for audiovisual production, conceived from technological hybridization. From this angle, it was possible to continue producing content that, at the same time, presented changes in its audiovisual narrative structures and originated the creation of new formats or the reuse of audiovisual files that each channel used to generate updated content.

  • Gaussimeter with automatic movement for the evaluation of the density of the magnetic flow in permanent magnets

Gonzales-Balladares, Julio David; Toque-Huamán, Evelyn; Fukuda-Hernandez, Rafael Ryutaro (Sociedade Brasileira de Fisica, 2024-01-01)
The 2022 quarantine period exposed the need to design laboratory instruments that were accessible to students, allowing them to conduct experiments from home. Although many magnetism studies have developed manually displaced gaussmeters, only a few of them have been automated. Therefore, this study presents the design of a gaussmeter made with construction toy parts and an Arduino UNO development board to quantify the magnetic flux density in permanent magnets. To evaluate its operation, precision and robustness tests were carried out. In this way, the Kruskal-Wallis test showed similarity in the experimental readings with the WSH315 sensor between 1.62–3.54 cm. Meanwhile, the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test showed limitations in terms of accuracy. And the Youden-Steiner test showed robustness to polarity rotation in the magnet at a distance of 1.19 cm with the AD22151 sensor. Finally, the experimental results showed proximity to analytical and numerical methods. Additionally, the results demonstrated the versatility of the gaussimeter to adapt to another sensor (MLX90393). Therefore, this design can be used to perform magnetism experiments at low cost.

  • Influence of Rice Husk Ash on Self-Compacting Concrete to Avoid the Presence of Honeycombs in Columns

Marcos Jesus, Boza Rabanal; Alexis Pablo, Tarazona Alarcon; Karla Lisette, Lopez Pasapera (Trans Tech Publications Ltd, 2024-01-01)
In structural columns, honeycombs are very common in small and big works. This problem is caused by poor consolidation of the concrete that increases the probability of honeycombs (voids left in concrete according ACI). These imply costs incurred and affect the work schedule. An exhaustive search is carried out regarding methods in the scientific literature and materials with respect to their availability in the market related to the problem. In this way, it was found that the design of a self-compacting concrete using the ACI 237R-07 with the use of a supplementary cementitious material aims to be a solution to this problem. Rice husk ashes contain silicon oxide and aluminates. These elements improve or increase the strength of the concrete, offer workability and fluidity properties. It was found that with a 5% replacement, 735 mm and 730 mm of slump flow and J-ring were obtained, respectively. Additionally, the V-funnel time was 9.58 seconds. The use of RHA positively increased the values of the measured tests with respect to the standard, thereby improving the workability and stability properties.

  • Experimental Evaluation of the Shear Stress of Concrete with Macro-Synthetic Fibers and Steel Fibers for Structural

Espinoza Moreno, Jasson Hilton; Arapa, Saomy Llantoy; Peña Torres, Pablo Jhoel (Trans Tech Publications Ltd, 2024-01-01)
This work evaluates the shear stress in concrete beams with the addition of reinforcing fibers. Since there is no established standard in Peru, it was proposed to use the "JSCE-SF6" test method recommended by the Japanese Society of Civil Engineers and an analytical model to determine the shear strength of concrete with fibers. For this purpose, steel and polypropylene fibers were used in the proportions of 3kg, 5kg, 7kg and 9kg for each design. The main test was the shear test based on Japanese standards, however, secondary tests such as compression and flexural tests were also performed. The results obtained showed the contribution of the fibers in the three tests performed. In the shear test, the polypropylene fibers obtained a higher shear strength in all their mix designs in the same proportions. Additionally, an analytical model is proposed to determine the shear stress in concrete with fibers, which includes as variables the compressive strength, the mass fraction of fibers and the tensile strength of the fibers, which generates acceptable values close to those obtained experimentally with the Japanese Standard Shear Test.
