Annotated Translation from English to Spanish of the Scientific Article A review on the performance of brain-computer interface systems used for patients with locked-in and completely locked-in symdrome (2023) from a Funcionalist PerspectiveAbstract
Medical translation is a broad field with extensive research. The branch of biomedicine has developed in this field, which has gained prominence in recent years due to scientific advances. Due to the constant development of information in this branch, the translation of these documents is necessary. The role of the translator is important in translating a text from one language to another. However, it is also important to consider and make known the introspective and retrospective process conducted by the translator to transfer the specifications of the base text and comply with the characteristics of the target text through the annotated translation. In this way, the decisions made by the translator during the transfer process will be understood. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to understand how the annotated translation from the functionalist perspective is developed in the scientific article A review on the performance of brain-computer interface systems used for patients with locked-in and completely locked-in syndrome (Rezvani et al., 2023). To fulfill the main objective of this research, different tasks will be conducted in the pre-translation, translation and post-translation stages following the theory proposed by Nord (2012). In the pre-translation stage, extratextual and intratextual factors will be analyzed. In the translation stage, translation problems and difficulties will be reviewed and solved with translation techniques and strategies. Finally, the communicative function of translation in the post-translation stage focused on a lay audience will be evaluated.
