Objetivo: Determinar la asociación de la autoestima global y la autoestima relacionada a la estética dental con el estado y prácticas de salud bucal en universitarios de Lima, Perú. Materiales y métodos: Estudio de diseño observacional analítico y transversal. Se encuestaron a 218 universitarios de Lima, Perú en el año 2022. Se utilizó el cuestionario de Rosenberg self esteem “Morris Rosemberg” para evaluar la autoestima global y el cuestionario Dental self Esteem para evaluar la autoestima relacionada a la estética dental. Se realizó la prueba de Kruskall Wallis para comparar la autoestima global y relacionada a la estética dental con el estado y prácticas de salud bucal. Asimismo, se evaluaron las características generales de los participantes. Finalmente, se ejecutó un análisis de Regresión de Poisson con varianza robusta crudo y ajustado, para determinar la asociación de las variables del estudio. Resultados: El 55.96% de los participantes pertenecieron al sexo femenino y la carrera universitaria más prevalente fue la de odontología con 16.97%. El 68.35% de la muestra estudiada se encuentra satisfecha con la apariencia de sus dientes. Asimismo, se encontraron promedios de 31 y 2.4 puntos para la autoestima global y la autoestima relacionada a la estética dental respectivamente. Se encontró asociación entre la autoestima global con el estado de salud bucal (IRR= 1.32; IC=95%:1.17-1.49). Conclusión: Se encontró asociación entre la autoestima global y autoestima relacionado a la estética dental con estado y prácticas de salud bucal.Objective: Determine the association of global self-esteem and self-esteem related to dental aesthetics with oral health status and practices in university students from Lima, Peru. The Rosenberg self-esteem “Morris Rosemberg” questionnaire was used to evaluate global self-esteem and the Dental self Esteem questionnaire to evaluate self-esteem related to dental aesthetics. Likewise, averages of 31 and 2.4 points were found for global self-esteem and self-esteem related to dental aesthetics, respectively.
