Improvement model to increase efficiency in a SME in the textile sector, based on lean manufacturing and work standardization toolsAbstract
A significant portion of activities in the clothes manufacturing process retains a high percentage of time on certain activities which not add value to the process, thereby generating losses. To address this issue, a proposal solution is made to increase efficiency in a SME textile company. The company under study currently operates with an efficiency rate of 64.58%, which is lower when compared to a similar company located in India, maintaining an efficiency rate of 81.93%. To achieve this improvement, a model based on the principles of 5S, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Die), and Work Standardization was implemented with the objective of increasing the productive efficiency, staying competitive, and achieving organizational goals. The motivation for this research project is to demonstrate that it is possible to enhance production efficiency for SME textile companies through Lean Manufacturing and Work Standardization tools. It is worth noting that the proposal solution increased efficiency to 84.84%, which included a 4.62% reduction in the percentage of defective products, a 12.97% reduction in the average clothes production time, a 27.26% reduction in machine setup time, and a 12.98% increase in machine availability.
