Background: The career in medicine in Peru is composed of different phases, being the last one, and arguably one of the most important, the medical internship. It is during the period that final year medical students are given the opportunity to, under direct supervision, practice medicine by interviewing, examining, diagnosing, and managing patients with several different health conditions. The medical internship is considered a fundamental stage of medical education by allowing medical students to apply all the theoretical knowledge acquired along the six previous years of studies to provide direct good-quality patient care. Moreover, it provides medical students with exposure to the different social, psychological, economic, political, among other circumstances that affect the health status of the Peruvian population. Objective: The objective of the present study was to describe the medical Internship experience by reporting some of the different clinical cases to which medical students were exposed during the 2023 period in the public hospital “Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins”. Materials and Methods: The present was an observational and descriptive study that incorporated multiple clinical cases of the main clinical rotations that composed the Medical Internship of the author. Results: A series of 30 different clinical cases observed by the author during 2023 period in the public hospital “Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins” were reported. Conclusions: Throughout the Medical Internship, the author of the present study was exposed to the diagnosis and management of multiple patients with several biological characteristics whose health condition was further complicated by their associated psychosocial and economic circumstances. He learned to understand each one of the patients he cared for as the sum of a series of factors that compose their health status as well as how to appropriately intervene to obtain better health care for the general Peruvian population.
