Firm size and technical efficiency in the manufacturing sectorAbstract
The primary aim of this research is to assess the correlation between technical efficiency and firm size within the Peruvian manufacturing sector. The research harnesses cross-sectional data gleaned from the Annual Economic Survey of 2020. The sample curated for this inquiry encompasses a selection of 1340 firms. The research methodology consists of a two-stage approach. Initially, Stochastic Frontier Analysis is applied to compute the efficiency index for the sector. Subsequently, in the second stage, the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) model and the Tobit Model are employed to identify the principal factors influencing technical efficiency. The findings of the study indicate that smaller enterprises exhibit lower levels of efficiency when contrasted with their larger counterparts.
