TV Streaming (OTT) Consumer Uses and Gratifications. A study on the motivations of young university students from Lima to practice binge-watching and short-watchingAbstract
This research work investigates the application of the Theory of Uses and Gratifications (TUG) within Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms in order to examine elements that motivate the practice of binge-watching and short-watching by university students in Lima during their viewing sessions on Netflix and HBO Max. The data for this study were collected through a qualitative approach by means of 20 interviews with university students using semi-structured questions. This work helps to understand the relationship of gratifications and intention for continued use of OTT platforms by discerning between intrinsic or extrinsic factors on the part of users. It is expected to find strong relationships with the TUG need for Social Integration, based on being able to comment on series or movies as a topic of conversation with other people. The study also examines theoretical discussions and future lines of research within the world of new media uses and gratifications.
