Stress and quality of life in adults who perform home officeAbstract
The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between stress and quality of life in adults who work from home. The sample consisted of 194 adults from 5 private companies in Metropolitan Lima, 67% were women and 33% men; the age range of the participants was 18 to 62 years, and the average age was 32 years. The Perceived Stress Scale Questionnaire (PSSQ) was applied, which was developed by Cohen et al. (adapted by Gonzáles et al. 2007), and the Quality of Life Index Scale (QLIS), developed by Mezzich et al (adapted by Robles et al. 2010). The results showed that there is a relationship between stress and quality of life in adults who perform home office. Negative stress is negatively and significantly related to the following dimensions of the QLIS: satisfaction with the sense of life (p < .05; r = -.591), satisfaction with personal integrity (p < .05; r = -.548), and satisfaction with productive functioning (p < .05; rho = -.575) in moderate magnitude; while with community support and services the magnitude is low. Likewise, positive stress is also significantly and negatively related with a high correlation with two of the four dimensions of the Quality of Life Index: satisfaction with the sense of life (p < .05; Rho = -.645) and satisfaction with productive operation (p < .05; Rho = -.632). With the other two dimensions (satisfaction with personal integrity, and community support and services, the correlation is moderate.
