Economic Growth and Formal Employment in the Manufacturing SectorAbstract
This paper examines the economic growth in relation to formal employment in the manufacturing sector in Peru. Information from the electronic payroll is used from January 2015 to December 2019. The results reveal that the connection between the formal employment rate in manufacturing and exports, as well as current public spending, is not significant. Instead, a positive relationship is observed between private investment, economic growth and formal employment in manufacturing. In addition, a projection is made for the year 2020, which shows a positive trend in formal employment in manufacturing under normal economic conditions in Peru. Therefore, it is concluded that economic growth generates more formal employment in the Peruvian manufacturing sector during the period from 2015 to 2019.
