Impact of competition on the financial solvency of fund management companiesAbstract
The Peruvian financial system has had an evident development over the years. In the wide range of financial instruments in Peruvian society, the important growth of mutual funds stands out, financial instruments aimed at people who want to make investments and have access to the stock market. The Peruvian mutual fund industry has obtained a growing performance both in number of mutual funds and in market value during the study period. This development can be attributed to the competitive dynamics present in the market. Due to this, in the present work the degree of competition in the magnitude of financial solvency of the firms that offer mutual funds is investigated. From the database of the Fund Management Companies (SAF) in the Securities Market Superintendency (SMV), indicators such as the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) will be obtained as a proxy for competition in the mutual fund industry and the Z Score as a proxy for financial solvency. The results indicate that there is a direct association between competition and solvency.
