Psychometric properties of the Sociocultural Attitudes Toward Appearance Questionnaire version 4 revised (SATAQ-4R) in adult womenAbstract
Peru has few validated instruments that measure the factors that influence certain sociocultural attitudes towards appearance in adult women. Therefore, there is a need to have an instrument that evaluates these factors. The objective of the present study was to examine the psychometric properties of the SATAQ 4R in women from Metropolitan Lima. The sample consisted of 210 participants between 18 and 62 years old (M = 30.42, SD = 10.33). Among the instruments applied, in addition to the SATAQ 4R, the BSQ 14 test was used for convergent validity. As evidence of the validity of the internal structure, a confirmatory factorial analysis was carried out, where a structure of 7 factors related to acceptable adjustment indices was found (CFI =0.963, TLI= 0.967, RMSEA=0.093, SRMR= 0.087). In relation to internal consistency reliability, the omega coefficient for each factor ranged between .73 and .94. It was found that the dimensions of the SATAQ - 4R test correlated positively and significantly with the BSQ-14. It is concluded that the SATAQ 4R has proven to be a valid and reliable instrument to measure the sociocultural risk factors that generate an alteration of body image in a Peruvian population.
