Motivation towards child school learning. The case of a children's shelter house in Lima MetropolitanaAbstract
La motivación es un estado que puede variar por distintos factores o motivos que intervienen en nuestro nivel de energía y en nuestra conducta para lograr ciertos objetivos o logros. Diversos estudios demuestran cada vez más la relación entre aprendizaje y motivación. Este estudio buscó describir la motivación escolar de niños y niñas (entre los 8 y 13 años) de una casa albergue en Lima, basándose en 8 factores que intervienen en la motivación. Para describir el estado de motivación escolar se seleccionaron ocho categorías utilizadas previamente en una investigación realizada por Martin (2003). Durante el proceso de investigación se diseñó un instrumento cuyos resultados concluyen que se percibe un nivel de motivación bajo en los niños y las niñas entrevistados que viven en una casa albergue en Lima. Este bajo nivel se ve reflejado en diversos factores que impactan directamente en la motivación. Se evidencia un nivel alto de ansiedad y un tipo de motivación extrínseca. También se demuestra una clara evasión del fracaso a través de un nivel de autosabotaje.Motivation is an internal state of mind which can vary due to different factors or motives that interfere with our level of energy and conduct to achieve certain objectives or goals. A variety of studies demonstrate the correlation between learning and motivation since they are key to achieving academic goals. The project's objective was to describe the school motivation in children between the ages 8 to 13 belonging to an orphanage in Lima, taking into account 8 factors that intervene in motivation. To describe the motivation towards school, 8 categories that were previously used in an investigation carried out by Martin (2003). During the investigation process an instrument was designed to carry out the interviews. The results of the investigation conclude that there is a low perception of motivation level in the children interviewed. This low level is reflected through the different factors that have a direct impact on the motivation. This low level is reflected in various factors that directly impact motivation. A high level of anxiety and a type of extrinsic motivation are evident. A clear avoidance of failure through a level of self-sabotage is also demonstrated.
