Religious coping in practicing Catholic women during social isolation by COVID-19Abstract
Antecedentes: El aislamiento social producto de la Pandemia ha motivado que las personas que practican una religión no puedan asistir a las iglesias. Frente a ello, se instauraron nuevas medidas para continuar con la práctica desde la distancia. Objetivo: Describir el afrontamiento religioso durante el aislamiento social por el COVID-19 en una muestra de mujeres católicas, participantes de un grupo religioso de Lima Metropolitana. Método: Se desarrolló un estudio cualitativo con 8 mujeres practicantes de religión católica y que pertenecen a un grupo religioso, a quienes se les aplicó la técnica de la entrevista semiestructurada. Resultados: Las participantes cuentan con un sistema de apoyo funcional, que les otorga una sensación de apoyo, calma y fortaleza; sintiéndose salvaguardadas por la comunidad religiosa y sus familias. También, se volvieron más cercanas a la fe durante el aislamiento social. Finalmente, percibieron positivamente el uso del afrontamiento religioso positivo, lo que les dió una sensación de seguridad. Conclusión: Durante el aislamiento las participantes experimentaron un afrontamiento religioso positivo que les permitió reinterpretar positivamente los efectos de la situación de pandemia.Background: The social isolation resulting from the Pandemic has caused people who practice a religion to be unable to attend churches. In response, new measures were implemented to continue the practice from a distance. Objective: To describe religious coping during social isolation due to COVID-19 in a sample of Catholic women, participants of a religious group in Metropolitan Lima. Method: A qualitative study was carried out with 8 practicing Catholic women belonging to a religious group, to whom the semi-structured interview technique was applied. Results: The participants have a functional support system, which gives them a sense of support, calm and strength; feeling safeguarded by the religious community and their families. Also, they became closer to the faith during social isolation. Finally, they positively perceived the use of positive religious coping, which gave them a sense of security. Conclusion: During isolation, the participants experienced positive religious coping that allowed them to positively reinterpret the effects of the pandemic situation.
