Covid-19 related anxiety and Emotional Regulation in university students from Metropolitan LimaAbstract
Background: At present, it is still of interest to know the negative psychological effects derived from the pandemic and its association with protective variables. Objectives: to relate Covid-19-related anxiety and emotional regulation in university students from Metropolitan Lima; compare both research variables according to sex, previous diagnosis of Anxiety Disorder and previous diagnosis of Covid-19. Methods: 191 university students (68.5% women) from 18 to 28 years old (M = 21.36, SD = 2.30) from Metropolitan Lima participated. The Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS) and the Emotional Self-Regulation Questionnaire Adapted for Peru (ERQP) were applied. The Pearson correlation statistic and Student's t-test were applied for the group difference. Results: An absence of association was found between Covid-19 related anxiety and emotional regulation, at the level of differences, these were rejected according to sex and accepted considering a previous diagnosis of anxiety disorder in the case of anxiety before COVID -19 and, a previous diagnosis of covid-19 in the suppression dimension. Conclusions: These results maintain that emotional regulation is not a protective factor against negative psychological experiences derived from covid-19, the implication of these results is discussed.
