Model proposal to enhance fleet efficiency using Total Productive Maintenance and Supplier Relationship ManagementAbstract
Nowadays, more than 10 billion tons of waste are generated per year worldwide and this number is increasing. Only in Peru, 11.03 million tons of waste are generated per year between municipal and non-municipal and 12 750 tons originates from the health sector. Against this background, waste management companies play an important role as they are responsible for collecting, transporting, treating, and disposing of these wastes. In this regard, this research work seeks to increase the efficiency of the fleet of a waste management company through the design of a maintenance management model. The design of maintenance management models has been studied before throughout the literature. Still, this study approaches the problem by combining maintenance tools and methodologies, such as Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and supply chain management tools such as Supplier Relationship Management (SRM). To increase the fleet efficiency, a model is designed that includes the TPM methodology as the foundation supported by the SRM tool that provides the timely procurement of the maintenance supplies, all on a basis of continuous improvement. To test the results, the proposed model was faced with a simulation validation through a software where it was found that the model gives good results in both practical and economical aspects.
