This research paper identifies the factors that determine adult worker’s decision to retire early in Peru. While demographic aging is slow in Peru, in the long term, the increase in the dependency ratio and the implementation of policies that encourage access to early retirement can put the pension system at risk. Therefore, it is important to determine and analyze the retirement patterns of adult workers in Peru. To that end, a binary logistic regression is applied, and marginal effects are estimated. This study shows that the likelihood of early retirement on adult workers is positively influenced by household wealth, age, marital status and educational level; and negatively affected by labor income, gender, the number of children in the household and the pension system. Based on the above, the results could indicate a substitution effect the labor income of adult workers increases, a possible influence of spouses on the retirement decision of married people, and a gender gap that extends women's working lives.
