This course focuses on the connections between music and communication from a social scientific perspective. The course considers the ways we can treat music as a form of communication distinct from verbal and traditional nonverbal ("body language") communication. The course explores what we know about the social origins, functions, and effects of music, and how music interacts with other forms of communication. It is a research-based, social-science communication course, not a music skills or appreciation course. You do not need any technical knowledge of music to do well in this course.Rights
