The Reception Of Queerbaiting As LGTBQ+ Representation In The Supernatural FandomAbstract
From its beginnings to the present, LGTBQ+ representation in mass media has been delimited under rules of heteronormativity. The lack of quality and quantity of queer characters and narratives continues to be criticized, with the appearance of phenomena such as Queerbaiting as a narrative element. To understand this problem, it is proposed to analyze how the online fandom of Supernatural receives the use of queerbaiting as LGBTIQ+ representation. Through a qualitative study it is proposed to achieve the analysis of three objectives: to identify what elements characterize queerbaiting in a story, to analyze how the content marked as queerbaiting is reinterpreted by fans, and to analyze the limits of the response of the fandom towards the producers. With the aid of a virtual ethnography, we will explore not only the series' own content, but also the audience-creators relationship and its importance. Were in the dynamics in online fandom, the ownership of content and fans' influence become key findings.
