Crecimiento del cartílago condilar mandibular: Revisión de la literatura

Abstract

El cartílago condilar mandibular es una estructura especializada presente en la superficie de los cóndilos mandibulares. Esta revisión de la literatura permitirá conocer información actual acerca de la estructura del cartílago condilar mandibular, los factores que influyen en el crecimiento de este y revisar los estudios actuales sobre los cambios morfológicos que pueden ocurrir en el cartílago con el envejecimiento. Se realizó una revisión sistemática de artículos científicos recientes. Los resultados obtenidos en la revisión indican que la estructura del cartílago condilar mandibular presenta cuatros capas, asimismo, el cartílago hialino que lo conforma presenta condroblastos maduros e hipertróficos incluso en edades avanzadas. Lo cual brinda la posibilidad de que pueda ser manipulado sin considerar la edad como un factor límite. Los estudios realizados en animales indican que el cartílago condilar mandibular puede ser influenciado por factores como: dieta, edad, sexo, estrés psicológico, factores intrínsecos, aplicación de toxina botulínica y láser. Estos resultados establecen la base para futuros estudios con la finalidad de implementar tratamientos potenciales que puedan ayudar a pacientes con procesos degenerativos en la ATM, como la osteoartritis. Asimismo, es importante fomentar la realización de nuevos estudios enfocados a la aplicación de toxina botulínica y láser, para terapias ortopédicas funcionales a edades tempranas, reducir los tratamientos quirúrgicos, mejorar la calidad y eficacia de los tratamientos actualmente conocidos.

This review of the literature will allow you to get current information about the structure of the mandibular condylar cartilage, the factors that influence the growth of this and review the current studies on the morphological changes that may occur in the cartilage with aging. A systematic review of recent scientific articles was carried out. The results obtained in the Indian review show that the structure of the mandibular condylar cartilage presents four layers, also, the hyaline cartilage that conforms to it, presents mature and hypertrophic chondroblasts even in advanced ages. It offers the possibility that it can be manipulated without considering the age as a limit factor. Studies carried out in Indian animals that the mandibular condylar cartilage can be influenced by factors such as: diet, age, sex, psychological stress, intrinsic factors, application of botulinum toxin and laser. These results establish the basis for future studies for the purpose of implementing potential treatments that can help patients with degenerative processes in the ATM, such as osteoarthritis. In the same way, it is important to promote the realization of new studies focused on the application of botulinum toxin and laser, for functional orthopedic therapies to early ages, to reduce the surgical treatments, to improve the quality and effectiveness of the currently known treatments.
