Representaciones sociales del veganismo en jóvenes adultos de Lima Metropolitana

Abstract

El estudio tuvo como objetivo describir las representaciones sociales sobre el veganismo en jóvenes veganos de Lima Metropolitana. Se realizó un estudio de tipo cualitativo aplicando entrevistas semiestructuradas a 10 jóvenes veganos entre 24 a 30 años que residen en Lima, Perú. Los principales resultados muestran que los participantes poseen información sobre el impacto ambiental de la industria alimenticia y la poca ética con la vida animal. Esta información influye en la actitud hacia las prácticas veganas y en sus representaciones. El veganismo es percibido por los veganos como una alternativa para el medio ambiente y como un movimiento que cuestiona lo establecido por la sociedad. Se halló que existen diferentes núcleos figurativos dentro del grupo, respecto al activismo. Un grupo hace mayor énfasis en la búsqueda de justicia y el otro en la búsqueda de armonía. Es así que existen diversas actitudes sobre el activismo, ya que este conlleva actos de trasgresión o interrupción en la armonía. Esto a su vez se corrobora en como los veganos imaginan el veganismo, donde un grupo hace mayor énfasis a un movimiento de justicia y otros a un espacio de paz donde los seres humanos y los animales pueden coexistir.

This study aimed to describe the social representations about veganism in young vegans from Metropolitan Lima. A qualitative study was carried out applying semi-structured interviews to 10 young vegans between 24 and 30 years old who reside in Lima, Peru. The main results show that the participants have information about the environmental impact of the food industry and the lack of ethics with animal life. This information influences the attitude towards vegan practices and their representations. Veganism is perceived by vegans as an alternative for the environment and as a movement that questions what is established by society. It was found that there are different figurative nuclei within the group, regarding activism. One group place greater emphasis on the search for justice and the other on the search for harmony. Thus, there are different attitudes about activism since it involves acts of transgression or interruption in harmony. This in turn is corroborated by how vegans imagine veganism, where one group places greater emphasis on a justice movement and others on a space of peace where humans and animals can coexist.
