Marine Center for the Paracas National ReserveAbstract
Peru’s natural resources have always been of great interest, mainly in the coastal area. The challenge of integrating the architecture to nature presented itself as a great motivation to realize this project. It focuses in the marine – coastal ecosystem in the Paracas National Reserve, one of the only two protected by the law on a national scale The marine coastal ecosystem has been affected the urban development and the lack of responsibilities towards it from the communities. In Paracas, the ecosystem has been the economic and social motor of the culture from centuries, since even before the Incas. In an actuality where global warming has already been affecting the ecosystems synergy, one cannot allow poor management of resources, fauna exploitation and irresponsible tourism generate more damage than the already caused. These are the reasons the necessity to create a space where restoration and recovery from damages caused by mankind is born, as well as the necessity to create awareness in the society to keep the conservations of such important resources in the future, both near and distant. Besides, the Marine Center for the Paracas National Reserve seeks to be the first in its category in the country becoming an example for different national reserves suffering from the same damages.
