Effect of having health insurance on access to health services for people with chronic diseasesAbstract
The present work aims to determine the effect of having health insurance on access to medical services for people with chronic diseases in Peru in 2019. To achieve this end, information from the ENAHO survey was used, and the sample was restricted to people with chronic diseases. The dependent variable being dichotomous, a binary choice model was estimated. Thus, it was found that having health insurance has a positive and significant effect on the probability of accessing health services. The factors that increase the probability of access are the area of residence (rural), the ethnicity of the individual, being a woman, and being an adult or senior citizen. In contrast, education, average income, and marital status were not significant.
