Analysis of student’s note-taking techniques at the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias AplicadasAbstract
Note-taking in consecutive interpreting has become an important element for interpreters in training to develop, as it helps them retain and remember the main ideas of a speech. There is extensive research on this topic and how it should be taught in classrooms. Although there are different note-taking systems proposed by different authors (Rozan, 2007; Gillies, 2017) that serve as guides for interpreters training, there is no specific guide that can be equally effective for every interpreter due to the different characteristics that each of them has (Chmiel, 2010). In this study we analyze the development of interpretation students’ personal note-taking systems in a Peruvian university context, the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas. Even though this university teaches the system proposed by Rozan (2007), students do not usually follow all the guidelines due to other factors that intervene in their process. This research could help trainers and interpreters in training to develop note-taking systems according to students’ preferences and ways of learning.
