Macroprudential policies are carried out with the purpose of avoiding interruptions in the flow of credit and thus preserving financial stability, these have focused mainly on banks given their predominance in the financial system. The objective of this paper is to determine the effect of the macroprudential policies applied in Peru as a mechanism to maintain stable credit growth. This was done through the evaluation of three macroprudential instruments: the capital requirement, the procyclical provisions and the banking reserve. For the analysis, a data set of banking entities in Peru during the period Jul10 - Jun19 was used through the fixed effects model for panel data. The results indicate that excessive credit growth can be mitigated by strengthening macroprudential policies. However, the coefficient of dynamic provisions is consistent with the theory after incorporating an adjustment dummy and is not significant. One possible explanation is that the activation of dynamic provisions leads banks to increase the risk at the time of granting credit because they perceive greater financial support. In addition, responses to changes in macroprudential tools are found to differ among banks based on specific characteristics such as size, leverage ratio, high-risk portfolio, and funding structure.en_US
