Quality of life and coping strategies in the elderly of Metropolitan LimaAbstract
Finalmente, la estrategia de afrontamiento dirigida a la tarea presentó correlaciones significativas y de magnitud baja con la dimensión de calidad de vida psicológicas y sociales (rs = .21).The objective of this research was to analyze the relationship between the components of quality of life and coping strategies in a sample of older adults in Metropolitan Lima. The participants were 150 seniors between 63 and 93 years old. We used the Brief COPE coping scale from Carver (1997) and two quality of life instruments WHOQOL-OLD and WHOQOL-BREFF from WHO (1999), whose analysis of validity (internal structure) and reliability (internal consistency) were acceptable. The results obtained partially confirm the research hypothesis, since five dimensions of the quality of life scales correlate in a low way with two of the three dimensions of coping strategies. Finally, the coping strategy aimed at the task presented significant and low magnitude correlations with the psychological and social quality of life dimension (rs = .21).
