dc.description.abstractObjective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of three solutions (Colgate Plax ®, Dento Aliento Fresco ® y Perioagar ®) as protocol for cleaning and disinfection of selected. Every participant used an antimicrobial solution on the toothbrushes for a period of seven days, in a total of 4 weeks in the following order: week 1 sterile water, week 2 Colgate Plax ®, week 3 Dento Aliento Fresco ® and week 4 Perioagar ®; Each volunteer received a spray with the antimicrobial solution, a toothbrush, a toothpaste, and a infographic paper with instruction on how touse the spray. Every seven days the samples were collected and taken to the laboratory for microbiologic procedures. After that, colonies units forming were counted. Results: In the case of Colgate Plax ® and Periogard ® bacterial load decreases in 61.5% and 57.7% of cases respectively. While for Dento Aliento Fresco ® bacteria decreases in 23.1% of the cases. The average colonies per plate was 217.44 UFC (16/26 cases), 5.2 UFC (15/26 cases) and 151.7 UFC (6/26 cases) to Colgate Plax ® mouthwashes, Perio- Aid ® and Dento Breath Fresco ® respectively Conclusions: Chlorhexidine 0.12% (Perioagar ®) had the lowest average of colonies per plate compared to the other two tested solutions.toothbrushes. html.description.abstractObjetivo: El propósito de este estudio fue evaluar la eficacia antibacteriana de tres soluciones (Colgate Plax ® ,Dento aliento Fresco ® , Perioagar ® ) como protocolo para la limpieza y desinfección de los cepillos dentales. Materiales y Métodos: El estudio fue de tipo crossover donde participaron 26 personas escogidas aleatoriamente, los cuales utilizaron una solución antimicrobiana en cepillos dentales por un periodo de siete días, en un total de 4 semanas en el siguiente orden: semana 1 agua esteril, semana 2 Colgate Plax ® , semana 3 Dento aliento Fresco ® y semana 4 Perioagar ® ;Cada voluntario recibió un spray con el antimicrobiano, un cepillo dental, una pasta dental, y una infografía sobre el uso del spray. Cada siete días las muestras eran recolectadas y llevadas al laboratorio en donde eran sembradas enBHI Agar y luego incubadas a 37°C por 24 horas. Por último, se realizó el conteo de las Unidades Formadoras de Colonias por placa. Resultados: Para el caso de Colgate Plax ® y Periogard ® la carga bacteriana disminuye en 61.5% y 57.7% de los casos respectivamente. Mientras que para Dento Aliento Fresco ® la carga disminuye en 23.1% de los casos. El promedio de colonias por placa fue de 217.44 UFC (16/26 casos), 5.2 UFC (15/26 casos) y 151.7 UFC (6/26 casos) para los colutorios Colgate Plax ®, Perioagar ® y Dento Aliento Fresco ® respectivamente Conclusiones: La clorhexidina al 0.12% (Perioagar ®) obtuvo la mayor disminución de colonias por placa a comparación de los otros dos soluciones probados.
