Objetivo: Determinar la asociación del índice de masa corporal con la presencia de caries dental en los escolares de 6 a 12 años que acuden a la I.E N° 7076 “Brisas de Villa” UGEL - 07 - Chorrillos en el año 2016. Métodos: El presente estudio fue descriptivo y transversal. Se realizó en 402 escolares de edades comprendidas entre 6 y 12 años, de género femenino y masculino. También, se asoció el CPOD/ceod con el IMC, género, edad e índice de O’leary. Resultados: Se evaluó clínicamente la presencia de caries dental mediante los índices CPOD y ceod, obteniéndose un valor promedio de 2.09 ± 2.48 y para el ceod de 4.09 ± 3.79. El 52.24% de los escolares no tuvieron sobrepeso ni obesidad y 25.37% fueron encontrados con problema de sobrepeso y 22.39% fueron encontrados con problemas de obesidad. No se encontró asociación estadísticamente significativa entre IMC con la presencia de caries dental. Sin embargo, se encontró asociación de la caries dental y el índice de higiene oral. Conclusión: No existe una relación significativa entre caries dental y el IMC en la población estudiada. Sin embargo, la presencia de caries dental y problemas nutricionales en los escolares son altos.Objective: To determine the association of body mass index with the presence of dental caries in schoolchildren aged from 6 to 12 years attending to the school No. 7076 "Brisas de Villa" UGEL - 07 - Chorrillos in 2016. Methods: The present study was descriptive and cross-sectional. It was performed on 402 schoolchildren from ages 6 and 12, men and female. Likewise, CMF / dmf, DMF with gender, age and O'leary index were associated. Results: 402 schoolchildren were observed and dental caries was evaluated clinically by the DMF and dmf index, obtaining an average value of 2.09 ± 2.48 and for the dmf of 4.09 ± 3.79. 52.24% of the students were not overweight or obese, 25.37% were found to have an overweight problem and 22.39% were found to have obesity problems. There was no statistically significant association between BMI and presence of dental caries. However, there was an association between dental caries and oral hygiene index. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between dental caries and BMI in the study population. However, the presence of dental caries and nutritional problems in schoolchildren are high.
