Emotional exhaustion is known as the basic form in which stress occurs, both in workers and students; leading them to feel overwhelmed and to have difficulties to perform their tasks, generating negative consequences. On the contrary, academic engagement involves high degrees of vigor, dedication and absorption; and positively influences student’s performance. These constructs have been presented as theoretical opposites, although the relationship between them is not necessarily exclusive. Therefore, it was decided to focus this research towards the measurement of the relationship between both constructs, using a sample of 182 psychology students, who were given the ECE and UWES-S-9 scales; finding that there is a negative and significant relationship between emotional exhaustion and the three factors of engagement; which confirms the hypothesis raised at the beginning. It was found that women are the ones who present a greater degree of emotional exhaustion and that this is a factor that is presented inversely in relation to the student's age. We also found a direct relationship between absorption and the weighted average of students.
