  • Development of a racing video game using the smartphone as a steering wheel

Quino, Jorge A.; Crispin, Adolfo G.; Barrientos, Alfredo; Cuadros, Miguel E. (International Institute of Informatics and Systemics, IIIS, 2022-01-01)

  • Predictive model to reduce the dropout rate of university students in Perú: Bayesian Networks vs. Decision Trees

Medina, Erik Cevallos; Chunga, Claudio Barahona; Armas-Aguirre, Jimmy; Grandon, Elizabeth E. (IEEE Computer Society, 2020-06-01)
This research proposes a prediction model that might help reducing the dropout rate of university students in Peru. For this, a three-phase predictive analysis model was designed which was combined with the stages proposed by the IBM SPSS Modeler methodology. Bayesian network techniques was compared with decision trees for their level of accuracy over other algorithms in an Educational Data Mining (EDM) scenario. Data were collected from 500 undergraduate students from a private university in Lima. The results indicate that Bayesian networks behave better than decision trees based on metrics of precision, accuracy, specificity, and error rate. Particularly, the accuracy of Bayesian networks reaches 67.10% while the accuracy for decision trees is 61.92% in the training sample for iteration with 8:2 rate. On the other hand, the variables athletic person (0.30%), own house (0.21%), and high school grades (0.13%) are the ones that contribute most to the prediction model for both Bayesian networks and decision trees.

  • DPF: App for diagnosing the psychological profile of a possible feminicide

Ramirez, Ivette; Mauricio, David (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2020-03-01)
The most visible expression of violence against women is feminicide. The majority of feminicide cases are committed by the partner or former partner of the victim. This involves ongoing domestic abuses, threats or intimidation, sexual violence or situations in which women have less energy or resources than their partner. In addition, clinics, public hospitals or private health institutes have mental health evaluation processes, however, these flows are usually carried out in several sessions, which causes a delay in the diagnosis. In this article, a mobile application that supports psychologists or psychiatrists during the process of the psychological profile diagnosis is proposed. The system contains a questionnaire and psychological tests, in this way, based on the patient responses, indicators, and metrics, the psychological profile of the assailant is obtained as a result. The use of the system in 40 patients shows that the selection times and the psychological test qualification have improved, as well as the interpretation of the results and the total process of diagnosis, which, when obtained at opportune time, allows specialists to prevent the victim from a possible feminicide.

Francia Bacilio, Eduardo Alberto; Perez Rosas, Joseph Steven; Armas-Aguirre, Jimmy (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2020-10-21)
In this paper, we propose a mobile solution to optimize the medical referral process for pediatric patients with presumptive cancer diagnosis. This proposal allows the automation of the process through the identification of the main gaps that are covered by the following functionalities: (1) Registration and interaction of the actors in the process, (2) Support for timely diagnosis with first-hand information, (3) Creation of request tickets and personalized medical appointments, and (4) Creation of reports on the response time and compliance with the process. The proposal is described in three sections: (1) The automation of the medical referral process, (2) The functionalities of the mobile solution, and (3) the designed technology architecture. The validation of the proposal was carried out in a social health insurance in Lima-Peru, with data and information of the process obtained by the institution. The measurement was made through the mobile solution which allowed obtaining the response times of the process with the main actors such as the pediatric doctor, an oncology specialist and a pediatric patient's guardian. The results showed that the time of the referral process is optimized between an interval of [95%-97.5%], which mainly generates a social benefit to the community by assuring a timely treatment of the pediatric cancer patient, based on diagnosis and early care.

  • Feature Extraction with Video Summarization of Dynamic Gestures for Peruvian Sign Language Recognition

Neyra-Gutierrez, Andre; Shiguihara-Juarez, Pedro (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2020-09-01)
In peruvian sign language (PSL), recognition of static gestures has been proposed earlier. However, to state a conversation using sign language, it is also necessary to employ dynamic gestures. We propose a method to extract a feature vector for dynamic gestures of PSL. We collect a dataset with 288 video sequences of words related to dynamic gestures and we state a workflow to process the keypoints of the hands, obtaining a feature vector for each video sequence with the support of a video summarization technique. We employ 9 neural networks to test the method, achieving an average accuracy ranging from 80% and 90%, using 10 fold cross-validation.

  • Data governance maturity model for micro financial organizations in Peru

Rivera, Stephanie; Loarte, Nataly; Raymundo, Carlos; Dominguez, Francisco (SciTePress, 2017-01-01)
Micro finance organizations play an important role since they facilitate integration of all social classes to sustained economic growth. Against this background, exponential growth of data, resulting from transactions and operations carried out with these companies on a daily basis, becomes imminent. Appropriate management of this data is therefore necessary because, otherwise, it will result in a competitive disadvantage due to the lack of valuable and quality information for decision-making and process improvement. Data Governance provides a different approach to data management, as seen from the perspective of business assets. In this regard, it is necessary that the organization have the ability to assess the extent to which that management is correct or is generating expected results. This paper proposes a data governance maturity model for micro finance organizations, which frames a series of formal requirements and criteria providing an objective diagnosis. This model was implemented based on the information of a Peruvian micro finance organization. Four domains, out of the seven listed in the model, were evaluated. Finally, after validation of the proposed model, it was evidenced that it serves as a means for identifying the gap between data management and objectives set.

Mérida, César; Ríos, Richer; Kobayashi, Alfred; Raymundo, Carlos (International Institute of Informatics and Systemics, IIIS, 2017-01-01)

  • E-Government Adoption Model Extended with Public Value in Peru

Perez, Sebastian; Cabrera, Jorge; Rodriguez, Jose; Raymundo, Carlos (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2019-05-09)
Currently, due to the existing potential regarding technology in the provision of services, the Peruvian government has developed solutions for its inhabitants. A survey conducted by the United Nations in 2016 endorses this fact, showing a high rate of technological development with respect to e-government. However, the same publication showed the low rate of citizen participation about it. These results show how, although there are many government technological services, these do not focus on the citizen or in their active participation, but mainly on technological development. In the present study, an adoption model is proposed, extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) incorporating public value, specifically environmental sustainability, as an external variable. The validation of the proposal was made through a validated survey with experts in the environmental field and applied to citizens of the Peruvian capital. Our results show that environmental sustainability is a factor that positively affects the adoption of e-government in Peru and that should be considered by the authorities as an enhancer of citizen participation about it.

  • Predictive model based on sentiment analysis for peruvian smes in the sustainable tourist sector

Zapata, Gianpierre; Murga, Javier; Raymundo, Carlos; Alvarez, Jose; Dominguez, Francisco (SciTePress, 2017-01-01)
In the sustainable tourist sector today, there is a wide margin of loss in small and medium-sized enterprise (SMEs) because of a poor control in logistical expenses. In other words, acquired goods are note being sold, a scenario which is very common in tourism SMEs. These SMEs buy a number of travel packages to big companies and because of the lack of demand of said packages, they expire and they become an expense, not the investment it was meant to be. To solve this problem, we propose a Predictive model based on sentiment analysis of a social networks that will help the sales decision making. Once the data of the social network is analyzed, we also propose a prediction model of tourist destinations, using this information as data source it will be able to predict the tourist interest. In addition, a case study was applied to a real Peruvian tourist enterprise showing their data before and after using the proposed model in order to validate the feasibility of proposed model.

  • Reference Model with a Lean Approach of Master Data Management in the Peruvian Microfinance Sector

Gamero, Alex; Garcia, Jose; Raymundo, Carlos (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2019-05-09)
Microfinance has undergone a great growth in the last years, bringing consequently the significant increase of the data of the transactions and daily operations, manual processes of cleaning, complexity in IT projects and, in comparison with the traditional bank, a less amount of resources. For this reason, the model must allow the master data to have maintenance processes that reduce manual cleaning activities and contribute to the implementation of technology projects in an agile manner. On the other hand, the research seeks to combine a basic pillar such as Master Data Management (MDM) for the analysis of information with the lean approach, already used in the industry for the operational cost and additionally an evaluation measure prior to this process obtaining the state of the capabilities in the organization. In this way, the result will be that the organization can be previously evaluated and quickly identify which points should be improved to achieve the implementation of MDM initiatives. Likewise, within the research it is concluded that the Peruvian microfinance sector is prepared for the implementation of master data management with a 'proactive' maturity level of 3.46 points.

  • Decision Tree Model to Support the Successful Selection of a Database Engine for Novice Database Administrators

Monjaras, Alvaro; Bcndezu, Enrique; Raymundo, Carlos (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2019-05-09)
There are currently several types of databases that have different ways of manipulating data that affects the performance of transactions when dealing with the information stored. And it is very important for companies to manage information fast, so they do not lose any operation because of a bad performance of a database, in the same way, they need to operate fast while keeping the integrity of the information. Likewise, every database category's purpose is to serve a specific or specifics use cases to perform fast to manage the information when needed, so in this paper, we study and analyze the SQL, NoSQL and In Memory databases to understand their fit uses cases and make performance tests to build a decision tree that can help to take the decision to choose what database category to use to maintain a good performance. The precision of the tests of relational databases was 96.26% in NoSQL databases was 91.83% and finally in IMDBS was 93.87%.

  • Data governance reference model under the lean methodology for the implementation of successful initiatives in the Peruvian microfinance sector

Romero, Alvaro; Gonzales, Antony; Raymundo, Carlos (Association for Computing Machinery, 2019-04-09)
Microfinance allows the integration of all sectors for the country's economic growth. Data duplicity, invalid data and the inability to have reliable data for decision-making are generated without a formal Governance. For this reason, Data Governance is the key to enable an autonomous, productive and reliable work environment for the use of these. Although Data Governance models already exist, in most cases they don't meet the requirements of the sector, which has its own characteristics, such as the volume exponential growth, data criticality, and regulatory frameworks to which it is exposed. The purpose of this research is to design a reference model for the microfinance organizations, supported by an evaluation tool that provides a diagnosis with the objective of implementing and improving the organization processes regarding Data Governance. This model was implemented based on the information of Peru's microfinance organizations, from which a 1.72 score was diagnosed, which is encouraging for the organization, since it shows that it has defined all its plans concerning Data Governance. Finally, after the validation, it was concluded that the model serves as a medium to identify the current status of these organizations to ensure the success of the Data Governance initiatives.

  • Increasing e-government adoption by emphasizing environmental sustainability: an extended case study in Peru

Pérez Chacón, Sebastián Ramón; Rodriguez Vilchez, Jose Luis; Cabrera Berrios, Jorge Antonio; Raymundo Ibañez, Carlos Arturo; Mauricio, David Santos (Emerald Group Holdings Ltd., 2021-01-01)
Purpose: Low citizen adoption rates jeopardize the success and proliferation of e-government systems. This study aims to understand how the perception of environmental sustainability (ES) can influence a citizen’s intention to use e-government systems. Design/methodology/approach: In a case study in Peru, the technology acceptance model (TAM) adoption model is extended with the construct of ES and evaluated with structural equation modeling. An 18-element, in-person survey was constructed and administered to citizens of Lima, Peru who had prior exposure to e-government systems. Findings: The results show that citizens can be positively influenced to adopt e-government systems if they perceive that doing so will contribute to ES. Research limitations/implications: As this was a preliminary study, further research should focus on specific, as opposed to general, e-government systems, as well as encompassing a broader cross section of the population. Practical implications: Administrators of e-government initiatives can consider public-interest factors, alongside of the common self-interest factors, when looking to improve adoption rates of e-government systems. Originality/value: This is the first time that TAM has been extended with the construct of ES.

  • Co-authors Networks in Adsorption Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning with Solar Energy

Marcos, Carla Abregú; Maslucán, Abraham Sopla; Lengua, Miguel Cano; Alvarez, José C. (2021-01-01)
The refrigeration and air conditioning systems by adsorption with solar energy are a very interesting option to replace the conventional compression systems because they save energy, are noiseless and use non-aggressive ozone layer refrigerants; however, there are scarcities of studies at this topic. The acquisition of knowledge and positioning in research on this topic by new research groups could be facilitated by knowing the context, trends, and collaborations that emerge in the subject. A map of collaborative co-authors between the greatest authors on the subject was drawn up, the same one that is done using Gephi software. From the analysis of these maps, the centrality degree and collaboration between the authors were determined.

  • A Development of a Mobile Application for Monitoring Siemens S7-1200 Controller Variables Through Firebase

Diaz, Alexander; Rivera, Steven; Vinces, Leonardo; Del Carpio, Christian (2021-01-01)
Production systems need to be monitored because failure to do so can cause a delay in production due to a lack of remote monitoring. There are solutions that provide this information, but they are limited, because they are owned and very expensive solutions. This paper proposes the development of a mobile application for the monitoring of S7-1200 programmable controller variables through Firebase. The goal is to use open-source-type tools to develop a real-time variable monitoring application of a programmable controller capable of hosting a Web server, and the sent data to the Firebase cloud, in order to avoid modifying the driver software and the data stored in memory. The implemented system of sending, handling and presenting variables is developed with tools of open source type, since they have as an advantage to have greater freedom in programming, unlike proprietary solutions or services. The tests were performed on the Siemens S7-1200 controller with a plastic injection molding machine.
