Validación estructural del R-SPQ-2F: Un análisis factorial confirmado(Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2014-08-21)The aim of this study is to validate the internal structure of the Revised-Study Process Questionnaire-2 Factors (Biggs, Kember & Leung, 2001), through a heterogeneous sample of 269 university and non-university participants. The structural equation methodology is used to test several measurement models: one-dimensional, four factors and hierarchical structure, and two factors (orthogonal and oblique).Theodels based on four factors did not show a satisfactory adjustment, and one had convergence problems caused by a very high interfactorial correlation. The two-factor model (deep and shallow) with correlated errors had a satisfactory adjustment. The internal consistency was satisfactory. The usefulness of the instrument and its theoretical reformulation is discussed.Acceso abierto

Evaluación del impacto del servicio de asesoría para alumnos universitarios en riesgo por bajo rendimiento académico(Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2014-08-21)This article presents the evaluation of the UPC Student Tutorial Service of for students with a poor academic performance and who are at risk of being dismissed from the university. This study aims at investigating the students perception of the tutorial service when they are at academic risk, taking into account their attendance and how they overcame the risk. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 24 students at academic risk and the study of their perceptions was based on four dimensions: general services, methodology, facilitator and suggestions. The results reveal that most students regardless of their risk status or attendance, appreciate the service, especially the support provided by the university and the facilitator as well as providing their suggestions to implement the service. The results are discussed based on the theoretical approach of the tutorial services provided.Acceso abierto

Modelo estructural de las competencias profesionales del catedrático para mejorar la calidad de servicios(Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2014-08-21)This study investigates the 4 dimentions o model of the university professor skills (ability, empathy, wisdom and security) adapted to the Peruvian context, particularly the city of Lima, using a second order Confirmatory Factor Analysis as a case of a model covariance structure (SEM). The model was used to test the research hypothesis of this study. The study was conducted at at the Faculty of Administrative Sciences of a public university in Lima, through a sample of 195 randomly selected participants. The results support the idea that the professor’s skills are directly related to your: competence, empathy, wisdom and safety and has the folllwing corresponding coefficients of 0.86, 0.86, 0.84 and 0.78 with significance 1 %. The model proposed in this research also meets the psychometric properties, i.e. it has an internal consistency of 0.79 and complies with the evidence of construct validity with a RMSEA index of 0.93 and GFI index of 0.054, which are the appropriate indexes. Therefore, this study provides a model for academics who are seeking to improve their performance.Acceso abierto

Actitudes hacia la estadística en universitarios peruano de mediana edad(Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2014-08-21)This paper studies the attitudes of college students concerning statistics; students who are taking the basic course in Statistics under an Adult Worker Student program at a private university in Lima, Peru. Two scales have been considered: Attitudes Toward Statistics (ATSE) proposed by Estrada (2002) and Attitudes Toward Statistics (ATSC) proposed by Cazorla et al (1999). The sample corresponds to 137 students with ages ranging from 32 to 42 years old, from four engineering majors, , 84% male and 52% who had taken a previous course in statistics. The item analysis was performed considering the Classical Test Theory (CTT) and Item Response Theory (IRT) under the Bayesian inference of the Samejima’s graded response model (Tarazona, 2013). The results reveal that AEC has a reliability of 0.93, and by comparison a shortened version of AEE after eliminating two items has a reliability of 0.88. Both scales are closely correlated are therefore are interchangeable. However AEE is the only one that reveals differences by specialty, especially among students of the School of Industrial Engineering (positive attitudes), and of Telecommunications and Network Engineering (less positive attitudes). Finally, other factors such as gender, different age groups and experience in a previous course of Statistics were insignificant in explaining attitudes toward statistics at any scale.Acceso abierto

Análisis psicométrico de la escala de cansancio emocional en estudiantes de una universidad privada(Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2014-08-21)The aim of this instrumental study was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Emotional Exhaustion Scale (EES) in a sample of 233 private university students of psychology with ages between of 16 and 44 years old (M = 20.9). The factor analysis reveals that the EES presents a one-dimensional structure (a factor that explains 43.361% of the total variance) and there was a significant and positive correlation between anxiety and depression and a significant and negative correlation with Academic Self-Efficacy. Furthermore, regarding reliability, the ordinal alpha is adequate (.853). To conclude, the EAPESA has suitable psychometric properties to continue validation studies, which reaffirms its use as an instrument to evaluate emotional exhaustion.Acceso abierto

Ventajas e inconvenientes de la formación online(Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2014-08-21)The technological changes that society, in general, and, education in particular, have been experiencing demand that all levels of the education system be renovated. The emergencerenovation of a traditional education system such as distance education has become increasingly important each day if we take into account all the aspects involved in how people learn. elow we explain why we believe that online training, learning through networks or e-learning should be considered as a tool that provides a new way of seeing, feeling and understanding university education.Acceso abierto

Concepción de ciencia y método científico en estudiantes de Psicología(Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2011-08-21)Specific research on the concept of psychology has indicated that one of its essential attributes is its scientific nature. Access to the concepts of science and the scientific method with a social collective approach facilitates understanding the cognitive representations of the assumptions that underlie and determine aspecific manner of performing an act.. We conducted this research with 169 Psychology students and each received the Natural Semantic Networks. In-depth interviews and questionnaire were used to clarify the science and scientific method foundations presented by students during three stages of their formation (beginning, middle and end). Respecto al método científico, se destaca la incorporación de terminología específica y alusiones a procedimientos metodológicos, según corrientes teóricas de la Psicología.The results show little variations of the concept of science presenting a strong imprint/impronta of the traditional model. As concerns the scientific method, the inclusion of specific terminology is underscored as well as references to methodological procedures, according to theoretical schools of thought on psychology. The research provides conceptual elements to encourage the professors to think about how to teach skills in order to conduct research in the area of psychology.Acceso abierto

Investigación sobre los estilos de enseñanza. Aportes para mejorar la didáctica de Ciencias(Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), 2014-08-20)The aim of this paper is to clarify conceptual and operational aspects of the construct “teaching styles” with its three distinctive properties: relative stability, multidimensionality and value neutrality. Moreover, it analyzes the points of view that are shared for many empirical studies: teachers transmit knowledge and typical forms of learning; teaching styles differ according to the type of subject taught, the match between the teaching styles and learning styles improve knowledge acquisition. In summary, this paper provides knowledge and strategies that contribute to training in science teaching and, therefore, to strengthen effective teaching practices.Acceso abierto
