In vitro comparison of the shear bond strength of dental enamel with Casein and with Vitamin E on teeth previously treated with 35% hydrogen peroxideAbstract
Aim: To compare the shear bond strength of dental enamel with surface treatment on teeth previously treated with 35% hydrogen peroxide evaluated immediately and after 3 days. Materials and methods: This in vitro study follows an experimental design. The unit of analysis was a bovine tooth exposed to 35% hydrogen peroxide, restored with composite resin and with a remineralizing agent and antioxidant applied. The study consisted of 98 specimens divided into 7 groups (n=14): Group 1: Immediate Control, Group 2: Control at 3 days, Group 3: Control at 7 days. Group 4: Immediate Casein. Group 5: Casein at 3 days. Group 6: Immediate Vitamin E. Group 7: Vitamin E at 3 days. The shear bond strength of the specimens was tested using a universal testing machine (Instron MTS -Alliance RT30, USA) at a load of 1 Kg/N- 1 mm/min speed. Results: After omparing the groups at 3 days, higher bond strength values were obtained as follows: Control group 13.40 ± 2.76 Mpa, Casein group 14.32 ±3.81 Mpa and Vitamin E group 14.66 ±4.71 Mpa. Significant differences were observed between the immediate and control groups (p=0.004). Conclusions: Vitamin E applied at 3 days improves shear bond strength compared to the control group and the Casein group at the same point in time.
