The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between stress and coping strategies in relatives of cancer patients in Lima. This study was conducted with 200 participants, whose ages ranged between 18 to 80 years old. The instruments used were a sociodemographic survey, the Perceived Stress Scale (González & Landero, 2007) and the Brief Cope Multidimensional Inventory (Morán, Landero & González, 2010). Both instruments were found to have acceptable psychometric properties. The results showed a positive correlation (p <.01) between avoidance coping and negative stress, and active coping and positive stress. In addition, statistically significant differences between negative stress and sex (p <.05) were found. Women suffer more negative stress than men.Tipo
