Objective: To compare in vitro the radiopacity of an experimental with the temporary restoration Ketac™ Molar, Zinc oxide-eugenol and Coltosol®F. Material and methods: The design of the study was of experimental type in vitro. The temporary restoration materials were placed in 44 polyethylene tubes corresponding to the 4 groups (n = 11) proposed for this study. The radiographic image captures were acquired by the Kodak Dental X-ray radiographic equipment and the development of the PSP phosphor film was processed by a digital equipment with the Digora software. The analysis of the gray values in pixels was done with Adobe Photoshop CS6 software and the radiopacity in millimeters of aluminum was determined by an equation proposed by a previous investigation by Húngaro et al. The data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test for the comparison of radiopacity followed by a post hoc test. Results: The experimental cement showed a value of 7.15 ± 0.3mmAl in millimeters of aluminum. In the post hoc test, it was found that there is a significant difference between experimental cement and Coltosol® F. (p = 0.0004). Conclusions: On zinc oxide, portland cement and dolomite clay, showed optimal radiopacity with respect to existing materials, so it could be used as a temporary restoration material in endodontics. However, it is necessary to expand the studies on the other characteristics and behaviors of this experimental cement.
