  • Development of a Video Surveillance web Application for the use of Biosafety Equipment with Image Recognition for Workspaces

    With the arrival of Covid-19, several preventive measures were implemented to limit the spread of this virus. Among these measures is the use of masks, both in open and closed public spaces. This measure has forced commercial establishments, workplaces, schools, hospitals, to maintain constant vigilance, upon entering their facilities, of the proper use of the mask, which should completely cover the nose, mouth and chin. However, this manual control is tedious and ineffective since most of the population is not able to correctly identify when a person has the mask on properly, with high error rates in the manual detection of the correct use of the mask according to surveys carried out. For this reason, this work proposes the automation of the detection of the proper use of the mask at the entrance to the work areas, also providing a follow-up panel of the recorded incidents. The effectiveness of the proposal was evaluated through the detection and categorization of a data set of more than 3000 images, resulting in an accuracy of 98.6%.
  • Serverless Web Application for The Life Cycle of Software Development Projects using Scrum in South America

    Serverless models are one of the latest architecture models provided by Cloud vendors such as AWS and Microsoft; we are exploring serverless applications to develop a progressive web application that will help future developers and project leaders to manage their projects better by having a tool that will help incorporate Scrum properly into their projects. As seen in the investigation done, we can see that South America is below the global average in completing projects on time or within the planned budget. In this work we explain the agile life cycle of the web application developed, focusing on the Scrum aspects of the tool design, the serverless architecture of the app and its following development, while also applying an analysis of the current projects to measure the level of effectiveness that a proper Scrum method can have on finishing a project correctly on time. With our initial surveys landing a score of 80 in the positive version of the System Usability Scale and getting good results in the completion of our main quality metrics, we can see that there is indeed an interest in finding a tool that helps use Scrum properly by adding video calls as a mean of direct communication between users.

  • Quality model for educational mobile apps based on SQuaRE and AHP

    During the last decade, there has been an increase in the demand of mobile apps in different download platforms, like Google Play Store, Apple App Store and Amazon App Store. Because of this, different approaches related to mobile app quality have surged, which tend to focus on assessing the general quality of an app without focusing on a specific sector. Because of this reason, the motivation to develop a quality model for mobile apps for the educational sector arises, using the System and Software Quality Requirements and Evaluation (SQuaRE) guidelines and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) weighting technique; the latter was used to prioritize the quality attributes. A quality model has been obtained, which consists of 8 characteristics, 19 sub-characteristics and 30 metrics. In order to corroborate the proposed model, 4 research questions and 2 case studies related to 2 mobile apps have been established. The results proved that Google Classroom and Moodle have very similar scores in each assessed characteristic; in the case of Usability, there is a difference of 0.006 in favor of Moodle, for Portability, there is a difference of 0.150 in favor of Google Classroom, and for Security, regarding authentication rules and mechanisms, both apps obtained the same result.

  • A sentiment analysis software framework for the support of business information architecture in the tourist sector

    In recent years, the increased use of digital tools within the Peruvian tourism industry has created a corresponding increase in revenues. However, both factors have caused increased competition in the sector that in turn puts pressure on small and medium enterprises’ (SME) revenues and profitability. This study aims to apply neural network based sentiment analysis on social networks to generate a new information search channel that provides a global understanding of user trends and preferences in the tourism sector. A working data-analysis framework will be developed and integrated with tools from the cloud to allow a visual assessment of high probability outcomes based on historical data, to help SMEs estimate the number of tourists arriving and places they want to visit, so that they can generate desirable travel packages in advance, reduce logistics costs, increase sales, and ultimately improve both quality and precision of customer service.

  • Implementation of a Fashion Virtual Assistant with the Use of a Kinect v2 Camera and Image Processing

    This article is about the problem and development of a fashion virtual assistant proposed by using a Kinect v2 camera and image processing, for fashion retail stores. It comes up mainly as a response to the inability of providing unique experiences during the shopping process through the use of diverse devices. Because of this, similar virtual assistant solutions, oriented to provide clothing recommendations, were analyzed to be able to provide software that could give a more personalized suggestion for the users based on their physical characteristics.
  • Bike-Sharing Management System Using IoT

    Nowadays, due to climate change and many other facts affecting daily life a trend to use eco-friendly transportation ways has arisen, and from them the one mostly used and with the highest acceptance is biking. Therefore, several companies have emerged offering bike-sharing systems, and those systems have been greatly accepted in the different metropolises around the world. The generalization of these systems has created a new need: to manage them efficiently. Consequently, in this work, we propose a software architecture and the implementation of a bike-sharing management system using the Internet of things (IoT).
  • Comparative analysis of cross-platform communication mechanisms

    The present research aims to compare the different technologies that allow real-time communication between Android and iOS devices. We conducted a measurement-driven experiment to test the performance of each technology under different scenarios. We determine their functionality according to the environment for which they have been developed, showing competent information about their capabilities based on the communication channel they use, and their performance measured in milliseconds. The final results allow mobile application developers to determine which technologies suits them the best, based on the specific context of their projects.

  • PMMA-Assisted Plasma Patterning of Graphene

    Microelectronic fabrication of Si typically involves high-temperature or high-energy processes. For instance, wafer fabrication, transistor fabrication, and silicidation are all above 500°C. Contrary to that tradition, we believe low-energy processes constitute a better alternative to enable the industrial application of single-molecule devices based on 2D materials. The present work addresses the postsynthesis processing of graphene at unconventional low temperature, low energy, and low pressure in the poly methyl-methacrylate- (PMMA-) assisted transfer of graphene to oxide wafer, in the electron-beam lithography with PMMA, and in the plasma patterning of graphene with a PMMA ribbon mask. During the exposure to the oxygen plasma, unprotected areas of graphene are converted to graphene oxide. The exposure time required to produce the ribbon patterns on graphene is 2 minutes. We produce graphene ribbon patterns with ∼50 nm width and integrate them into solid state and liquid gated transistor devices.

  • Designing a decision tree for cross-device communication technology aimed at iOS and android developers

    This analysis proposes a decision tree for selecting cross-device communication technologies for iOS and Android mobile devices. This tree accelerates the selection of cross-device technologies by taking into account known use cases of interaction. Five different communication technologies were tested (Real-time Multiplayer, Nearby Messages, PeerJS, iBeacon and Eddystone) by means of 13 proof of concept applications distributed between both operating systems (Android-iOS, iOS-iOS, Android-Android) and the design of 20 architecture diagrams of three types: sequence (connection to services and message sending), deployment and component. The decision tree was validated by mobile development experts resulting in a maximum reduction of up to 30 days of technology selection research. The effectiveness of the tree as a tool is 60%, its usefulness 80% and its ease of comprehension 90%, according to the results obtained from the experts.

  • Serious Game for the Virtual Practice of the Emplantillado in the Constructive System of adobe with reinforced cane

    At present, the training of university students and the specialization of professionals are accompanied by a series of educational tools based on digital environments and applications for specific areas in education; In this process of application of the technology exists a methodology called Serious Game oriented towards some specific areas like Simulation in subjects of building and construction; Since this field is new in higher education, there are not many specific applications, such as the case of emplantillado for simulation of constructions using adobes reinforced with cane. The objective of this study is to demonstrate that the Serious game methodology, oriented to the teaching the course of the Preliminary Works of the Faculty of Architecture, can improve students learning and optimize their skills for the emplantillado in construction systems using the application for iPad. The application has been tested in a group of twelve students who were part of the experimental group in relation to the execution time, attempts made and qualification obtained; In contrast to evaluate the time to solve the test for emplantillado into de groups that performed the same exercise; an ANCOVA was used to evaluate the main effects and interactions to answer the null hypothesis. This ANCOVA model for balanced cases of type III includes a covariate that is correlated with the dependent variable and means on the dependent variables adjusted due the to the effect the covariate had on it.
  • The Implementation of ISO/IEC 29110 Software Engineering Standards and Guides in Very Small Entities

    This paper outlines the details of seven case studies involving the pilot usage of the new standard ISO/IEC 29110standard ‘Lifecycle Profiles for Very Small Entities’, which was specifically designed by Working Group 24 of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 to address the standardization needs of Very Small Entities (VSEs). The purpose of this paper is to add substantially to the body of knowledge and the literature on the rollout and implementation of this new and evolving standard and to act as guidance for other researchers in the design and implementation of ISO/IEC 29110 case studies. Furthermore it is hoped that that the lessons learnt from these case studies will help promote the adoption of this new standard in an industrial setting.
